Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

SCSU Women's Soccer Defeated by No. 7 Mercy, 1-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought battle to nationally-ranked No. 7 Mercy, 1-0, at Jess Down Field in New Haven, Conn.

RECORDS: SCSU (8-5) | No. 7 Mercy College (10-1)

How It Happened
  • 2:04, 1st (Mercy 1, SCSU 0): Mercy drew a corner just over two minutes into regulation. Mercy's Natalia Elizarraras' corner was punched away by SCSU keeper Tamra Zippin (Monson, Mass.) and drifted to the Rebecca Conway, who tucked the ball into the near-side post to put Mercy out in front.
  • Despite allowing the early goal, Zippin denied Mercy on two more scoring opportunities to give her two saves in the half.
  • Zippin was relieved in goal by senior Allie Smith (Danbury, Conn.), who was making her first career appearance after recently joining head coach Adam Cohen's squad.
  • Mercy held a slight advantage in shot attempts (12-10) and shots-on-goal (5-4).
