Volleyball's Win Streak Improves To Four Games With 3-0 Sweep Of Southern New Hampshire

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team swept Southern New Hampshire University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 26-24), in a Northeast 10 Conference match-up at Pelz Gymnasium in New Haven, Conn. With the win, the Owls' fourth straight, SCSU improves to 14-12 overall and 7-4 in the NE10. Southern New Hampshire drops to 8-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

The Owls displayed a balanced attack, paced by freshman setter Kailyn O"Neal (Katy, Texas) who assisted on 30 of SCSU's 40 kills in the match. O'Neal has settled in nicely for the Owls in her first season for head coach Lisa Barbaro and has paced SCSU's offense for the entire season. Saturday's 30-assist day was her sixth game in her last eight appearances with 30-or-more assists. Gabriela Vazquez (Meriden, Conn.) posted her second-straight double-double, and her fourth of the season, with 10 kills and 11 digs as well as a team-high three service aces. Alyssa Gage (Beverly Hills, Fla.) led with a game-high 12 kills with nine digs, three blocks and three aces.

NOTES
  • The Owls' win against Southern New Hampshire snaps a four-game skid against the Penmen and gives them their first win against SNHU since 2014.
  • The Owls have now won a season-best four straight games, which stand as their longest win streak since last season's six-game run from Oct. 10-23.
  • SCSU has also won five of its last six games, and improve to 5-2 for the month of October and 10-1 at Pelz Gym.
UP NEXT
  • The Owls head out on the road for the next three games as they travel to Molloy on Oct. 23, Franklin Pierce for a pivotal NE10 match-up on Oct. 27 and its final non-conference contest at New York Institute of Technology on Oct. 29.
  • The Owls conclude the regular with a pair of home games against NE10 foes Saint Anselm on Nov. 2 and Saint Michael's on Nov. 3.
