Volleyball Sweeps NYIT, 3-0

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University put together another all-around impressive performance as they cruised to a three-set sweep of New York Institute of Technology, winning 25-12, 25-20 and 25-22. The Owls improve to 16-13 overall while NYIT drops to 12-16 on the year. 

As a team, the Owls hit .313, while the offense set-up 46 assists on 50 kills for the match. Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) led the Owls with a game-high 15 kills after hitting .286, while adding eight digs and two service aces. Alyssa Gage (Beverly Hills, Fla.) had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs as well as two blocks, including the match-clinching deflection in the third set. Jillian Chambers (Shelby Township, Mich.) had a team-leading 12 digs while Kirstin Colwell (Coconut Creek, Fla.) had eight kills while hitting .315. Freshman setter Kailyn O'Neal (Katy, Texas) had 29 assists with three kills, four digs and a block.

NOTES
  • All-time SCSU kill record holder Jadus' 15 kills were her most in six matches and gives her 10 games with 15 or more kills. 
  • Gage has now recorded back-to-back double-doubles and also has hit double digits in kills in seven-consecutive matches. Monday night's performance was also her third double-double in her last five matches.
  • O'Neal picked up 29 assists in the Owls win at NYIT, giving her that many or more in six of her last seven games, of which Quinnipiac is 6-1.  
  • After winning just twice in their first 13 matches against NYIT, the Owls win streak against the Bears stands at three games with Monday night's win.
  • The Owls have now won six of their last seven games. 
UP NEXT
The Owls conclude the regular season with a pair of home games against Saint Anselm on Friday, Nov. 2 and a Senior Day match-up against Saint Michael's on Saturday, Nov. 3. Having clinched a berth in the Northeast Conference Tournament with its win at Franklin Pierce on Saturday, Oct. 27, SCSU will await the results of this weekend's conference action before learning of their NE10 First Round opponent.
