SCSU Volleyball Takes 3-1 Decision Against Concordia

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball defeated Concordia (N.Y.), 3-1, in a non-conference match-up at Pelz Gymnasium in New Haven, Conn. Concordia took the first set, 25-20, before SCSU captured the second set, 25-13, and third set, 25-17. Concordia, traveling with six student-athletes, forfeited the fourth set because of an injury, awarding SCSU a 25-0 decision in the deciding set. Southern improves to 10-11 overall and 7-1 on their home court while Concordia drops to 0-13 on the season.

Gabriela Vazquez (Meriden, Conn.) had a solid all-around performance with a game-high 13 kills, while hitting .500, to go along with a tea-high seven digs and five service aces. Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) had 10 kills and six digs, while Alyssa Gage (Beverly Hills, Fla.) totaled nine kills and five digs, as well as four blocks. Kailyn O'Neal (Katy, Texas) posted 24 assists for the match.

NOTES
  • Vazquez's five service aces are her most in a match since she totaled her career-best six aces against Felician on Oct. 8, 2016.
  • Vazquez's 13 kills are her second-highest tally of the season and her most since a 14-kill performance against New Haven on Sept. 18. Her .500 hitting percentage is also her second-best showing of the season.
  • Southern Connecticut improves to 7-1 at Pelz Gymnasium, and is now 21-4 in its last 25 games on its home court dating back to its season finale in 2016.
  • Jadus' 10 kills against Concordia push her program-leading career kills to 1,333.

Southern is back in action on Oct. 9 when it travels to Springfield, Mass. for a NE10 Conference match against American International College. After a road tilt at Merrimack on Oct. 13, SCSU returns home for a three-game home stand against Adelphi on Oct. 16, Stonehill on Oct. 19 and Southern New Hampshire on Oct. 20.
