Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) topped her career-high in points as the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball squad defeated the University of Bridgeport, 73-55, this evening at the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium to close out the Bridgeport Crossover Classic.

Notable Facts
- The last time the Owls defeated Bridgeport was back on November 15, 2015 when Southern took the victory 86-64 in the Bridgeport Crossover Classic.
- With her 25 points, 19 rebound performance tonight, Steinauer has recorded two back-to-back double-doubles to start the 2018-19 season. Her 25 points also topped her career-high, which was set back on December 2nd, 2017 against Adelphi (23).
FIRST HALF
- The Owls took control of the game early as they went on an 8-2 run in the first three minutes. The Purple Knights surged back going on a 9-4 run and tying the game with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Bridgeport took a brief lead until Fressle knocked down a good 3-pointer to tie it back up and Wheeler capped off the quarter with a shot from the charity stripe.
- Southern started the second quarter on fire going on a 17-3 run in the first five minutes, which was ignited by a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers from senior Amanda Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) and Steinauer. The Owls 22-point second quarter surge sent them into halftime with an 11-point lead.
SECOND HALF
- The Purple Knights went on an 8-0 run at the beginning of the third quarter in an attempt to catch the Owls lead, but Southern counterattacked with a 11-0 lead of their own led by Steinauer, who scored seven of the 11 points in that sequence. Both teams traded points, but the Owls were able to maintain their lead heading into the final stretch of play.
- Southern continued their early quarter surges as they went on a 10-0 run at the beginning of the fourth. Their largest lead came in the fourth quarter, where they took a 19-point lead with over four minutes remaining in the game. The Owls continued to ward off the Purple Knights, limiting them to just nine points in the final frame.
- The Owls strong play allowed them to capture their second straight victory and head back to New Haven with two wins to open the 2018-19 season.
