Owls Win Third Straight, Defeat Saint Rose, 59-53

ALBANY, N.Y. – Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) collected her third-straight double-double as the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball defeated the College of Saint Rose this evening at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium in Albany, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling behind, 6-0, off two Saint Rose three-pointers, the Owls went on a 8-2 run to tie the game at the 3:42 mark. Jessica Fressle (Levittown, N.Y.) scored six points during that stretch.
  • In the second quarter, the Owls tied the game at 23-23 as Steinauer scored seven of her 17 points in the quarter. Amanda Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) ended the quarter on a buzzer-beater three pointer to give the Owls momentum at the half.
  • Saint Rose went on a 7-0 run midway through the third quarter to take a 32-25 lead. Southern countered and took a one-point lead off an 11-3 run before closing the third quarter with a 42-39 lead.
  • Saint Rose grabbed a three-point lead early in the fourth after outscoring the Owls 6-0 in the first three minutes.  Owls stayed within one for the rest of the game until the last minute of play where they extended their lead to as many as six and finished the game with a six-point victory, 59-53.
