Stellar Second Half Pushes Owls Past Assumption

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Owls scored three unanswered goals in the second half to push the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer squad past Assumption College, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Assumption jumped on the board with two quick goals early to take the lead.

- Southern's offense woke up in the second half as they scored three unanswered goals to claim the win. Junior Johanna Wahlen (Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) scored the opening goal for the Owls in the 50th minute as she collected a loose ball outside the 18 yard box and launched a missile into the left corner to cut the Greyhounds lead in half.

- Freshman Greta Brunello (Carisolo, Italy) scored her first collegiate goal off of a corner kick header, assisted by sophomore Paula Nunez Escobar (Basque Country, Spain), 2-2.

- The Owls sealed the win in the 78th minute as sophomore Meaghan Kelley (East Brookfield, Mass.) scored the game-winner off a header from a corner cross by freshman Kelsey Burr (Wallingford, Conn.).



UP NEXT: The Owls will head to Garden City, N.Y. to face Adelphi University, with the game set to start at 6 p.m.
