Balanced Attack Leads Volleyball Past Adelphi, 3-1

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team defeated Adelphi University, 3-1 at the Center for Recreation and Sport. The Owls improve to 10-13 overall and 3-4 in the Northeast 10, while the Panthers drop to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in the NE10.
 
Freshman Gabriela Gaibur (Monroe, N.Y.) was a force to be reckoned with for the Owls offense as she notched her second-straight double-double tallying career-highs in kills with 15 and digs with 19. Senior Tea Carter (Modesto, Calif.) tallied a career-high 50 assists, while contributing eight digs, two services aces with a .750 hitting percentage (3-for-4). Both junior Abigail Epstein (Crystal River, Fla.) and sophomore Erika Benson (Kings Park, N.Y.) collected 12 kills apiece. Epstein notched seven digs, four block assists and two service aces, while Benson add three block assists and a .409 hitting percentage.

Notes
  • Gabriela Gaibur had team-highs in kills (15) and digs (19), while also topping career-highs in both categories. Her previous career-high in kills was tied on Oct. 22 against Molloy when she had 10 kills. Her previous career-high in digs was against Bentley on Oct. 18 when she had 18.
  • Tea Carter's 50 assists were a career-high for the senior. Her previous career-high was set on Sept. 15 when she had 49 against Post. She has also collected 30 or more assists in 15 games this season and in nine of her last 10 matches.
  • Ella White's five block assists against Adelphi was a career-high. Her previous career-high was set on Oct. 18 against Bentley when she had four.
  • Abigail Epstein has tallied double-digit kills in five-straight games, collecting 12 against Adelphi. She has also collected two-or-more blocks in each of her last three games.
  • Jennifer Dawson, who nabbed 13 digs during the match, has tallied double-digit digs in eight of her last nine games.
  • Erika Benson tied a career-high in kills with 12. This high was previously set during the first game of the season against Dominican on Sept. 6.
