Juliana Santos Scores As Women's Soccer Ties AIC, 1-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against American International College in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the tie, Southern goes to 8-5-3 overall and 5-3-3 in NE10 play while the Yellow Jackets are now 6-7-2 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play.

Juliana Santos (Newington, Conn.) scored the Owls' only goal while Rossella Graniero (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) had the assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Juliana Santos (Newington, Conn.) put the Owls on the board in the 3rd minute of play. Paula Nunez (Basque Country, Spain) sent a corner to the top of the box where it was headed to the opposite post. Rossella Graniero (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) collected the loose ball and fed Santos at the top of the box. Santos flicked a shot on goal that AIC goalkeeper Tamra Zippin managed to get a hand on, but couldn't stop.
  • Late in the half, AIC tied it up when Jennifer Hackett found a seam in the Owls' defense and fed Jacinda McCartney for the neutralizer.

NOTES
  • Santos' goal was her second of the season while she also became the seventh player on the Owls' roster to score multiple goals this year.
  • For Graniero, the assist on Santos' goal was her first of the season and she now sits at five points on the year.
