Juliana Santos' Late Goal Lifts Women's Soccer To 1-0 Win At Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y.  - Senior Juliana Santos' (Newington, Conn.) goal in the 83rd minute of play gave the Southern Connecticut women's soccer team a 1-0 win at Le Moyne in a Northeast 10 Conference tilt played in Syracuse, N.Y.. With the win, the Owls improve to 6-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NE10 while Le Moyne drops to 1-7-1 overall and 0-5-1 in conference play.

In goal, Allie Smith (Danbury, Conn.) posted her second-consecutive shutout after stopping all four of the Dolphins' shots-on-goal. It's her fifth shutout of the season and third against NE10 opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Santos' goal came with less than seven minutes to go in regulation and broke a scoreless tie. After the Owls battled to keep the ball on the Dolphins' half of the field, Santos grabbed control of a loose ball well above the box and booted it on goal. Le Moyne keeper Shannon Bennison misplayed the lob and the ball trickeled over the goal line to give the Owls all the offense they needed for the afternoon.

NOTES
  • The goal was Santos' first of the season, and third of her career, including her first since Oct. 3, 2018 when she scored the Owls' goal in a 1-0 win against Pace.
  • Santos also becomes the eighth different player to score a goal for the Owls this season. The Owls have not had that many different players score a goal in a season since they had nine in 2016.
  • Smith's fifth shutout this year gives her the most in a single season since Erica Ridella recorded seven in 2014.
