Five Facts to Know
  • SCSU was picked to finish fourth in the Southwest Division in Northeast 10 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the NE10 on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019.
  • Head coach Kate Lynch announced that seniors Kiana Steinauer and Imani Wheeler, and red-shirt junior Jessica Fressle will serve as captains for the 2019-20 season.
  • In addition to Steinauer, Wheeler and Fressle, the Owls return Aaliyah Walker and Najae White to the lineup, and Amanda Fudge, Paula Tattari (Transfer from University of Mobile) and Alexa Kellner (Transfer from UMass-Amherst), who joined the Owls midway through the 2018-19 season.
  • Five newcomers enter the fold for the Owls: redshirt-junior Ednaija Lassiter (Transfer from Rhode Island), freshmen Amani Boston, Desiree Davis, Sydnie Drezek and Blake Greer.
  • Senior Kiana Steinauer is four points away from hitting 1,000 career points. She sits 22nd all-time entering the 2019-20 season with 996 and is 10 points away from Sherry Faircloth (1993-97) who sits 21st with 1,006 all-time.

Looking Back At Last Season
  • The Owls finished fifth in the Southwest Division of the NE10 with a record of 14-15 overall and 8-12 in the conference. They fell to No. 4 Northeast Division seed, Merrimack 75-62 in the opening round of the NE10 Championship.
  • Kiana Steinauer broke multiple program and conference records, and accomplished a remarkable NCAA DII feat. In addition, she earned post-season honors: D2CCA All-America Honorable Mention, D2CCA First Team All-East Region honors, NE10 First Team All-Conference and Division II All-ECAC honors.
  • She broke a 35-year old NE10 record for single-season rebounds with 444. The previous conference record was set in 1982-83 by Assumption's Lisa McCarthy where she had 412 in a single season. She collected 534-points and 444-rebounds and became the first player in Southern Connecticut and NE10 history to collect 400+ points and 400+ rebounds in a single season. Steinauer also broke four school records: single-game rebounds (31), single-game steals (10), single-season rebounding average (15.3) and single-season total rebounds (444).
  • Steinauer's 33 points and 31 rebounds against Concordia on Dec. 19, 2018 resulted in the first 30-point, 30-rebound performance in Northeast 10 and SCSU women's basketball history.
  • Additionally, it was the second 30-30 game in NCAA Division II women's basketball history, and the first since Benedict College's Destiny Betts did it in 2016. Just the second 30-rebound game in NE10 history, joining Assumption's Lisa McCarthy who had a 31-rebound performance against Saint Michaels on Feb. 12, 1983 it is also the second 30-rebound game in NCAA Division II women's basketball since 1996 and the 13th all-time in NCAA Division II history.
