Men's Basketball Captures 77-61 Win Over Pace On Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball squad defeated Pace University 77-61 on Senior Day at Moore Field House. The Owls improve to 17-11 overall and 12-8 in the Northeast 10 conference, while the Setters drop to 15-12 overall and 9-10 in the NE10. The Owls honored its four-member senior class before the start of today's game: Kealen Ives, Joey Wallace, Luke Beesley and Isaiah McLeod.
 
Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Conn.) had a team-high 27 points, while shooting 10-for-16 from the field and registered five rebounds. C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) scored 16 points with four three-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied 10 points and five rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Southern got off to a quick start taking a 10-4 lead on the back of a hot-shooting Seaforth, who made two three-pointers in the first four minutes. Pace was able to cut down the Owls lead to one on a 9-4 run. The Owls went into the half up 36-32 as Seaforth was a key performer in the first half, scoring nine of his eventual 16 points off 3 three-pointers.
  • The Owls offense exploded at the 15:03 mark, outscoring the Setters 21-5 for eight minutes to go up by 25 points, which was their largest lead of the game. Southern's second half surge proved to be the difference-maker as they captured the 77-61 victory over Pace in their last regular season contest.

  • McLeod's 27 points tonight brings him to 1,721 career-points, becoming the 10thOwl in history to hit 1,700 points.
  • McLeod trails Tylon Smith '15 for ninth place all-time at SCSU with 1,761.
  • Seaforth recorded a career-high eight rebounds. His previous career-high was set on Jan. 29, 2019 against Assumption College, where he had seven.
  • Three Owls hit double-digit points: McLeod (27), Seaforth (16), Wallace (10).
 
UP NEXT
With the win the Owls' clinch the fourth seed in the Southwest Division of the NE10 and will await their first-round opponent, who they'll host on Friday, March 1st, 2019.
