Softball Drops Decisions to Dominican, Shepherd University

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball squad dropped an 8-0 decision to Dominican College and a 5-2 decision to Shepherd University in Clermont, Fla. The Owls drop to 1-5 overall, while the Chargers improve to 1-2 overall and the Rams improve to 2-2 overall. 

VERSUS DOMINICAN
  • The Chargers opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning before extending their lead to three in the third inning.
  • They added five more fifth inning runs to increase their lead to eight.
  • The Owls were unable to capitalize on any of their offense allowing Dominican to take the 8-0 victory.

FACTS
 Sara Buscetto (Waterbury, Conn.) went 1-for-3, while Jayden Delaporta (Mystic, Conn.), Julia Lener (Danbury, Conn.) and Alexa Bacoulis (Monroe, Conn.) collected one hit apiece in two plate appearances for the Owls.

 VERSUS SHEPHERD
  • Shepherd opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run single. The Owls then capitalized on a Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) single to left field that scored Alexa Bacoulis (Monroe, Conn.)
  • The Rams extended their one-run lead to three in the fifth inning off of triple and a single in back-to-back batters. Shepherd went on to add another run in the sixth inning that gave them a 5-1 lead heading into the final inning of play.
  • Sara Buscetto (Waterbury, Conn.) tripled to right field in the seventh inning, but Shepherd's offensive push in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Rams went on to win 5-2.

FACTS
Cailey Botteon (Moodus, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Jacqueline Dumont went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while fellow freshman Alexa Bacoulis went 1-for-3 with one run scored.
Sara Buscetto went 1-for-4 including a triple and an RBI.

UP NEXT
Southern Connecticut returns to action tomorrow, March 11 against Bemidji State University and Truman State University at 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Fla.
