Nick Lamberti Breaks Stolen Base Record, Tim Shea Ties Win Record In 5-4 Win Against New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University baseball head coach Tim Shea tied Joe Bandiera's career wins record with the 466th of his career and Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) broke the program's stolen base record as the Owls defeated University of New Haven, 5-4. With the win, Southern improved to 7-9 in the Northeast 10 Conference Southwest Division, 9-14 in the NE10 and 18-25 overall.

Lamberti passed Marc Potocsky's record of 76 stolen bases from 2000 through 2002 with the 76th and 77th of his career against the Chargers while also going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) drove in three runs with a first-inning triple while Cameron O'Toole (Grafton, Mass.) was 2-for-5 with a double. Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) and Mac Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.) also drove in runs for the Owls.

Brandon White (Simsbury, Conn.) won his fifth consecutive start after allowing one earned run over six innings pitched while striking out seven and walking one. Jared Henry (West Stockbridge, Mass.) struck out four batters in three innings of work, including three in the 9th that included two batters with the go-ahead run on base, for his first career save.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Owls opened the game with five-straight hits as Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.), Cameron O'Toole (Grafton, Mass.) and Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) all singled before Criscuolo delivered a three-run triple to give Southern a 3-0 lead. Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) then doubled down the left field line to score Criscuolo before moving to third on a ground-out by Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.). He then scored on Mac Finnegan's (Old Saybrook, Conn.) ground ball to short to take a 5-0 lead.
  • New Haven chipped away at the Owls lead, scoring in the bottom of the 1st, with two runs in the 4th and one in the 5th to cut Southern's lead to 5-4.

NOTES
  • Brandon White won his fifth-straight decision to improve to 6-0 and lowered his ERA to 3.39.
  • White extended his streak of consecutive innings without allowing an extra-base hit to 19 1/3 before giving up a lead-off double in the fourth inning.
  • White is now 5-0 with a 2.76 ERA against the NE10 Southwest Division, allowing just nine earned runs over 29 1/3 innings while striking out 14.
  • Jared Henry has been nearly untouchable in his last six appearances, giving up one run over his last 11 innings pitched for a 0.81 ERA with one win and a save. Henry also has 13 strikeouts.
  • Nick Lamberti's three-hit day gives him 217 for his career and puts him one shy of Chris Borelli's 218 hits for fifth place, all-time.
  • Connor Redahan's first-inning double was his team-leading 20th of the season. He is one of 14 student-athletes in NCAA Divsion II baseball to reach the 20-double mark to date.
  • The second-year Owl has been on a tear, hitting safely in six-straight games in which he is batting .423 (11-26) with six doubles, six RBI and six runs scored.
  • Redahan's became just the fourth player in program history to reach 20 doubles in a season and the first to reach the mark since Ryan Geffert in 2011.
  • Cameron O'Toole's two-hit afternoon was his eighth multiple hit game in his last 11 games in which he is batting .495 (19-40) with 12 runs scored and five RBI.
  • Jim Palmer was 2-for-5 for the day and tied Nolan Cloutier for the team lead in runs scored with the 33rd of the season. The senior shortstop has scored 12 runs in his last 12 games.
  • Tyler Criscuolo's first-inning triple gave him a team-leading 26 consecutive games in which he has reached base safely and includes every game he has appeared in this season.
