Women's Soccer Ties Assumption, 1-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team tied Assumption College, 1-1, in a Northeast 10 Conference road matchup. The Owls move to 4-1-1 on the year and 2-1-1 in conference play. Assumption moves to 3-0-1 and 1-0-1 in conference play. 

Senior Johanna Wahlen (Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute with an assist from freshman Julia Alicea (Columbia, Conn.) to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. Assumption would tie the game on a goal by Annie Irwin in the 66th minute. 

How It Happened
  • Wahlen gave the Owls a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 40th minute on her first goal of the season. Alicea recorded her second assist on the play. 
  • Assumption would tie the game at 1-1 in the second half on a goal by Annie Irwin. 

Notes
  • Wahlen became the the seventh Southern Connecticut player to score a goal this season. 
  • Alicea's assist was her second of the season, tying Wahlen for the team lead. 
  • Allie Smith made 10 saves in the contest, tying her career-high, which was set in Southern's game against Bentley on Sept. 21.
  • The Owls have yet to allow a first half goal this season. 
  • This was the Owls first tie since Oct. 20 2017 when they tied Southern New Hampshire University, 0-0.
