COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team dropped their 2019 season opener to No. 7 nationally-ranked Kutztown at the Delta Classic hosted by Saint Michael's College. The Owls drop to 0-1 overall, while Kutztown improves to 1-0.

Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) made nine saves for the Owls, while freshman
Janelle Ward (Kitchener, Ontario) made 13 saves in relief for Craft in her SCSU debut.
Notes
- Southern Connecticut held the nationally-ranked squad scoreless through the first quarter of play, but the Golden Bears struck four times in the second quarter.
- After a scoreless third quarter, Kutztown added two more to defeat SCSU, 6-0.
