Volleyball Sweeps Assumption, Caldwell To Close Out Opening Weekend

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team swept Assumption College and Caldwell University at Pelz Gymnasium, and have now won 12-straight sets in their first four matches. The Owls improve to 4-0 overall, while the Greyhounds drop to 0-2 and the Cougars move to 1-2 on the season.
 
Coming off a pair of opening day wins over Dominican and Queens on Friday, Sept. 6, the Owls picked up where they left off, sweeping both NE10 opponent Assumption in non-conference action and Caldwell. Southern Connecticut was dominant in both matches behind the steady offensive play from newcomers Abigail Epstein (Crystal River, Fla.) and Ella White (Gurnee, Ill.), and veteran Jennifer Dawson (Clinton, Conn) as the trio combined for 56 of the Owls 83 kills on the day.

Notes
  • White led the Owls on the attack with 11 kills through three sets, while Dawson and Epstein followed with nine apiece.
  • Senior Tea Carter was remained solid in the setters spot as she collected 32 assists.

Notes
  • Epstein and Dawson were the Owls attackers in the match against Caldwell as they collected 10 kills and nine kills, respectively in SCSU's second sweep.
  • Carter chipped in 29 of her 61 assists in the final three sets of the day.

Things To Know
  • The last time Southern Connecticut opened the season on a four-game winning streak was in 2017 when they swept Dominican, Bridgeport and Georgian Court, and defeated Nyack 3-1.

The Owls are set to play four matches against at the Post University (Waterbury, Conn.) tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14 against Felician and Bloomsburg and Sunday, Sept. 15 against the University of Bridgeport and host Post.
