Women's Basketball Falls To Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell to Bentley University, 101-52 at the Dana Center. The Owls fall to 7-8 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast 10, while the Falcons improve to 12-3 overall and 7-0 in the NE10.
 
Senior Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) was the Owls' offensive leader against Bentley as she collected 18 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals. Redshirt freshman Alexa Kellner (Stamford, Conn.) registered a career-high 15 points, four steals and two rebounds shooting 3-for-5 from three-point range. Senior Aaliyah Walker (Toronto, Ontario) had seven points, three rebounds and two steals in the loss for Southern.

How It Happened
  • The first quarter was a tight- and high-scoring affair as Bentley narrowly outscored Southern 26-21. The Owls first six points were tallied by Jessica Fressle (Levittown, N.Y.).
  • Bentley came out firing in the second quarter scoring 21 points and holding Southern to a single-digit scoring quarter of six points. The Falcons went into halftime with commanding 20-point lead.
  • The Falcons offense continued to push in the third quarter as they opened with a 12-2 run in the first two and a half minutes. At the conclusion of 30 minutes played Bentley was up 75-45.
  • The fourth quarter saw the Falcons hold tight defense, but continued to drive to the basket with six of their 13 attempts coming from layups. They outscored the Owls 26-7 to seal their victory at home.
 

Notes
  • Alexa Kellner's 15 points were a career-high, which she previously set in the second game of the season against Bloomfield on Nov. 10, 2019 when she had 13 points.
  • Four steals are the most Kellner has registered in a game since she tallied a career-high five steals against New Haven on Dec. 4, 2019.
  • Two blocked shots by Imani Wheeler were her most this season. The last time she had two blocked shots was in the opening round of the 2019 NE10 Tournament against Merrimack.
