Women's Swimming & Diving Falls To Marist

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming & diving team lost to Marist, 187-107, in a non-conference matchup at Bruce Hutchinson Natatorium in New Haven, Conn.

Avery Fornaciari won a pair of races as she took the 200 Yard and 100 Yard Butterfly events. Lauren Spencer and Erin Leirey both won events for the Owls, with Spencer taking the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:10.49 before Leirey won the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:28.83.

200 Yard Medley Relay
Southern's "A" relay team of Hannah Nyquist, Erin Leirey, Avery Fornaciari and Megan Garner finished second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.11.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Faith Littleton and Jordan Thompson grabbed the second and third spots, respectively, in the 1000 Yard Freestyle event. Littleton finished in 10:54.18 while Thompson touched at 11:01.47.

200 Yard Freestyle
Alina Tucker was the Owls' top finisher in the 200 Yard Freestyle event, finishing in third place with a time of 2:00.06. Erin Leirey was close behind at 2:00.67 for fourth place.

100 Yard Backstroke
Morgan Fernald led the Owls the Owls in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a third-place finish in 1:01.11. Olivia Stelevitz was fourth at 1:03.16.

100 Yard Breaststroke
Nicole Cislo placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke event with a time of 1:11.51 while Littleton clocked in at 1:12.70 for fourth place.

200 Yard Butterfly
Fornaciari won her first event of the afternoon with a win in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:09.01. Hannah Nyquist finished third with a time of 2:14.22.

50 Yard Freestyle
Garner finished third in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.93 followed by Strelevitz in fourth at 26.08.

1 Meter Diving, Round 1
Cecilia Vess posted a 179.40 for third place in the first round of the 1 Meter Diving competition.

100 Yard Freestyle
Alina Tucker finished in the third place in the 100 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 55.59. Garner finished in fifth place at 56.80.

200 Yard Backstroke
Lauren Spencer won the 200 Yard Backstroke event with a time of 2:10.49, followed by Hannah Morse in second place at 2:12.44.

200 Yard Breaststroke
Erin Leirey took the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:28.83 while Nicole Cislo was fourth at 2:36.54.

500 Yard Freestyle
Emily Darroch finished in fourth place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:31.00.

100 Yard Butterfly
Fornaciari's second win of the day came in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 58.72.

1 Meter Diving
Vess posted a 136.73 in the second part of the two-event 1 Meter Diving event.

400 Yard IM
Erin Leirey finished second in the 400 Yard Individual Medley, touching the wall at 4:41.38.

200 Yard Freestyle Relay
The relay team of Morgan Fernald, Alina Tucker, Avery Fornaciari and Megan Garner finished second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:44.43.

UP NEXT
Southern is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 when it hosts Saint Rose in its final regular-season contest of the 2019-20 season. Prior to the start of the afternoon's meet, the Owls will recognize Avery Fornaciari, Megan Garner, Erin Leirey, Hannah Morse, Jordan Thompson, Alina Tucker and Emily Waehler as part of Senior Day.
