Men's Basketball Begins Final Home Stand Of Season Against First Place Le Moyne

The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team will begin three-game home stand, their last of the season, as they host Le Moyne College on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at 3:30 p.m. Le Moyne is currently in first place of the Southwest Division of the NE10 and ranked No. 4 in the D2SIDA Men's Basketball East Region Poll. The Dolphins also received votes in the D2SIDA National Poll. 
 
The Owls currently sit in third place in the Southwest Division of the NE10 with a record of 8-7, a half-game ahead of Pace and New Haven, who both have a record of 8-8. Southern currently has the tie-breaker over Pace as a result of their season sweep against them. Adelphi sits in second place with a record of 10-5, while Southern has a three game lead over American International College, who sit in sixth place with a 5-10 conference record with four games remaining. The top five teams in each division play in the conference tournament, with the top three teams in each division automatically earning a spot in the quarterfinals and the top two teams hosting a quarterfinals game. With a win against Le Moyne and an AIC loss to New Haven, Southern will clinch a spot in the NE10 Tournament.

All-Time Against Le Moyne College: 19-25
The Last Time They Met: Southern fell to Le Moyne on the road, 97-70, on Dec. 7, 2019. Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) finished with a 18 points and six rebounds, and Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) recorded 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds. C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) scored 11 points on 5-8 shooting while Khalil Richard (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in with 10 points. 

Last Time Out
  • Southern defeated Pace, 98-94, on the road on Tuesday. Feb. 11 in overtime. 
  • Five Owls scored in double-digit figures, led by Isaiah Boissard's (Walden, N.Y.) career and game-high 31 points on 9-14 shooting, including a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. Boissard also picked up a career-high three steals.
  • Greg Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) poured in 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and recorded a career-high five assists while Bennett scored 13 points on shot 4-8 from the field. 
  • Seaforth registered 13 points, and nailed the game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation, and Levar Allen (Richmond, Va.) contributed with 12 points, tying a career-high.
  • Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.) scored a season-high nine points, and also picked up eight rebounds. 
  • Boissard also registered career-highs in three-pointers made and free throws made, and tied a season-high with nine field goals made. 
  • Boissard and Bennett both played 41 minutes. The last time a Southern player played over 40 minutes in a game was on  Feb. 16, 2019, when Isaiah McLeod did so against Le Moyne. 
  • Boissard and Bennett became the first pair of Southern teammates to play in over 40 minutes in the same game since McLeod, Kealen Ivesand Ulyen Coleman did so in a double-overtime game against Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 12, 2019.
  • Southern made a season-high 26 free throws in 29 attempts. 

Player Notes
  • Over the last five games, Boissard is shooting 56.1 percent from the field and 50.0 percent (12-24) from three-point range, averaging 17.0 points.
  • Jones has scored at least 15 points in four consecutive games and six of his last seven games.
  • Jones is averaging 16.6 points per game and shooting 53.7 percent from the field over his last 13 games, dating back to Dec. 10 against Saint Rose.
  • Jones has made 34 of his last 37 free throw attempts dating back to Jan. 8 against Adelphi.
  • Adams II has scored in double-figures in 15 of his 17 games played.

  • Penn is the only player to have appeared in every game for Southern this season, and is shooting 50.0 percent (14-28) from the field and pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game since Jan. 22. 
  • Jones was named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll for the 13th week of the season for his performances against New York Institute of Technology and AIC, his third consecutive weekly honor.
