NORTHEAST 10 CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONORS
  • Freshman Zach Bedryczuk (Beacon Falls, Conn.) earned the NE10's first Northeast 10 Rookie of the Week honor after an impressive collegiate debut against Florida National last week. The first-year Owl reached base in all five plate appearances with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and two walks.
  • Bedryczuk collected two doubles and led the Owls with three runs scored.
  • He also became the first freshman since Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) in 2016 to collect three hits in his first collegiate game.
  • Bedryczuk becomes the first Southern player to win NE10 Freshman of the Week since Nate Carney (Bristol, Conn.)  did so on April 3, 2017.
  •  Anthony Zambito (Ridgewood, N.J.)  and sophomore Jared Henry (West Stockbridge, Mass.) were named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.
  • In the Owls' season-opener against Florida National, Zambito was 3-for-5 with three RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases. It was Zambito's first career three-hit game and first career three-RBI game.
  • Henry picked up his first victory of the season in a 12-11 extra-innings win against Florida National. Henry put the clamps on the Conquistadors' offense when he pitched 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, while giving up one unearned run, and striking out three, including the last two batters he faced.

THE OWLS' LAST TIME OUT
  • Southern saw a scheduled three-game series at Florida National get rained out, but managed to get the first game in.
  • The Owls won their season opener, 12-11 in 10 innings, when freshman Zack Healy drove home Connor Redahan with the winning run.
  • Freshman Jack Drewry (Wolcott, Conn.) was 3-for-4 with a RBI in the first game of his collegiate career while classmate Zach Bedryzcuk (Beacon Falls, Conn.) was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two walks.
  • Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) also blasted the Owls' first home run of the season and also scored three runs, including the go-ahead run in the 10th inning.

UP NEXT
  • After the Owls wrap-up their four-game weekend in South Carolina, Southern will return home to host Bridgeport for its season-opener on Saturday, Feb. 29 at The Ballpark at SCSU.
