The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team will travel to Garden City, N.Y. to face No. 10 nationally-ranked Adelphi University on Tuesday, Feb. 25. With the NE10 postseason tournament nearing, the Owls are battling for a spot with American International. Southern Connecticut will face the Panthers on Tuesday evening, while the Yellow Jackets will face Saint Rose on the road. These two matchups earlier this season resulted in losses for both the Owls and the Yellow Jackets, as Adelphi took the 75-54 win over Southern at Moore Field House, while the Golden Knights defeated AIC on their turf, 65-54.
 
The tournament takes the top five teams from both the Southwest and Northwest divisions. The Owls currently hold the five-spot in the Southwest, while the Yellow Jackets sit in sixth, and the Golden Knights sit in seventh.

All-Time Against Adelphi: 11-15
The Last Time They Met: The Owls and Panthers squared off earlier this season when the then-No. 12 nationally-ranked Adelphi captured a 77-54 victory over Southern at Moore Field House. Senior 
Imani Wheeler collected 11 points, nine assists and three steals through all 40 minutes on the floor. Redshirt junior Jessica Fressle  also provided offense for Southern, collecting a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Aaliyah Walker collected nine points and five rebounds. 
 
Last Time Out
  • The Owls defeated The College of Saint Rose, 56-46, in the final Northeast 10 Conference home game of the season and on senior day.
  • Imani Wheeler had 16 points to go along with a game-high seven assists and two steals.
  • Jessica Fressle  led all scorers with 19 points, while collecting five rounds and a game-high four steals. 
  • Alexa Kellner finished with 11 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
     
Player Notes
  • With 84 steals thus far season, Imani Wheeler is now tied for sixth with Anabel Perdomo (2004-05) all-time in single season steals.
  • Imani Wheeler has recorded double-digit points in 14-straight games with 16 points against Saint Rose The last player to score double-digit points in 12-straight games was Taylor McLaughlin during 2016-2017 season. McLaughlin recorded 13-straight games of double-digit points from Nov. 30, 2016 to Jan. 21, 2017.
  • With nine assists against New Haven, Wheeler passed the 100-assist mark for the season and for the second time in her career.
  • Fressle's 19 points against New Haven were her fifth-straight game in double figures, while she is averaging 20.8 points per game during the run.
  • Alexa Kellner ranks first among freshman in the conference with two three-pointers made per game, and tied for eighth overall. She has recorded 11 double-digit point games and 12 games with at least three three-pointers made. She is also the first Southern freshman to score at least 200 points in a season since 2013-14 (Taylor McLaughlin).
 
The Owls in the NE10
  • Imani Wheeler is first in the conference in steals per game (3.1) and in total steals (84).
  • Wheeler is also 12th in the conference in total points with 367 with fellow teammate Jessica Fressle is 10th with 383. Fressle is also 11th in points per game with 14.7, while Wheeler is 15th with 13.6.
  • Fressle is third in free throws, going 88-for-105 on the season and is seventh in free throw percentage of 83.8.
  • Two Owls rank in the top ten in minutes per game as Imani Wheeler averages a conference-high 37.9 minutes per game, while Alexa Kellner is eighth and averages 33.9 minutes.
  • Wheeler has seen the most minutes in the conference clocking a total of 1,024 minutes on the floor this season, while Kellner has seen the second most minutes with 914.

The Owls in NCAA Division II
  • Imani Wheeler is seventh in NCAA DII in steals with 84 and seventh in steals per game (3.1). She is the only player in the Northeast 10 to break the top ten in both categories.
 
Team Notes
  • Southern is third in the NE10 in steals per game with an average of 8.8.
  • Southern Connecticut is third in the conference in three-pointers made with 218.
  • The Owls average the second least number of turnovers per game in the conference and are ranked 22nd in NCAA DII women's basketball with 13.3 per game.
  • The team is also 36th in the nation in turnover margin with a margin of 4.23 (344-454).

  • Paula Tattari registered a career-high 10 points. Her previous career-high of six points was set last game against SNHU on Jan. 14.
  • Alexa Kellner recorded a career-high five assists against Saint Michael's. Her previous career-high was four against Dec. 14.
  • Alexa Kellner topped a career-high in points with 22 against Franklin Pierce. Her previous career-high was set against Bentley on Jan. 11 when she had 15.
  • Five steals are a career-high for Jessica Fressle. Her previous career-high came during the 2018-19 against Le Moyne on Nov. 17, 2018 when she recorded four.
  • Imani Wheeler tallied a career-high 26 points against Assumption. Her previous career-high was on Dec. 30, 2018 against Dominican when she had 23 points.
  • Jessica Fressle tallied a career-high 28 points against Saint Anselm. Her previous career-high was set earlier this year against New York Tech on Nov. 20, 2019 when she had 24.
  • Fressle's two blocks are also a career high. She previous notched one block against Stonehill on Jan. 25.
  • Blake Greer tallied a career-high nine boards against Jefferson, a feat she previously set back on Nov. 10, 2019, when she had six against Bloomfield.
  • Alexa Kellner's three blocks against Jefferson are a career-high for the redshirt freshman. Her previous career-high was two, set on Nov. 13, 2019 against Queens and has tied that high on two other occasions this season before breaking it against Jefferson.
