Men's Basketball Wraps Up Regular Season With Road Trip To Adelphi University

The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team will travel to Adelphi University to play the Panthers for their final regular season game of the year at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City, N.Y. on Tuesday. Feb. 25, 2020. Adelphi is currenlty ranked 10th in the NCAA East Region rankings. 
 
With Southern's win over The College of Saint Rose on Saturday, Feb. 22, Southern clinched an automatic spot in the Quarterfinals of the Northeast 10 Conference Tournament. Southern is currently in third place with Pace Southwest Division with a 10-8 conference record, and olds the tie-breaker over New Haven and Pace by virtue of their 2-0 season record against them. New Haven is currently in fourth place with a 10-9 record after finishing their conference schedule last week, while Pace sits in fifth place at 9-9 with one game remaining against first place Le Moyne. Adelphi is in second place with a record of 11-7, one game ahead of Southern in the standings. The top five teams in each division play in the conference tournament, with the top three teams in each division automatically earning a spot in the quarterfinals and the top two teams hosting a quarterfinals game.

All-Time Against Saint Rose: 22-10
The Last Time They Met: 
Adelphi defeated Southern at James Moore Field House, 90-80, on Jan. 8, 2020. Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) had a monster game, finishing with 18 points and 19 rebounds. Khalil Richard (Baltimore, Md.) scored 20 points, while Greg Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
 
Last Time Out
  • Southern defeated Saint Rose, 91-72, on Saturday, Feb. 22, to cap off a season-sweep of the Golden Knights.
  • Adams II celebrated Senior Day with a 21-point, 19-rebound performance, while Jones also scored 21 points and added nine rebounds.
  • Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 12 assists, and Levar Allen (Richmond, Va.) scored a career-high 15 points and shot 6-11 from the field.
  • Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.) added 10 points while shooting 5-7 from the field.
  • Southern's 19-point win was their largest margin of victory in conference play this season.

  • Adams II is averaging 17.4 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game since Dec. 4 against New Haven, a span of 15 games, while also recording seven double-doubles and shooting 56.7 percent from the field.
  • Since the start of January, Adams II is shooting 46.1 percent (12-26) from three-point range.
  • Adams II has scored in double-figures in 18 of his 21 games played.
  • Over his last six games, Bennett is averaging 13.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game. He's also hit on 47.7 percent of his shots from the field 45.0 percent of his three-point attempts in that span.

  • The Owls have made the NE10 Tournament in 10 consecutive seasons dating back to 2010-11, the longest current steak among NE10 programs.
  • Southern has also made the NE10 Tournament in seven straight seasons since the NE10 adopted the Northeast and Southwest Divisions prior to the start of the 2013-14 season.

  • Adams II is tied for eighth in field goal percentage, as he's shooting 53.9 percent from the field.
  • Seaforth is tied fourth in steals per game (1.5). 
  • Bennett is eighth in assists per game with 3.9, which is first among freshman in the conference.
