How It Happened
- The first set began as a back and forth affair with the Owls gaining the edge. Tied at nine, the Owls went on an 10-3 run to take a seven-point lead. SCSU closed out the set registering six of the final nine points and took a set one victory.
- SCSU picked up where they left off in set one, as they collected six of the first eight points in set two. After that, the Mavericks picked up the three of next four points and came within two of the Owls. Southern Connecticut exploded on an 8-2 run and took an eight-point lead that the Mavericks would not recover from. A late 5-0 rally effort from Mercy wasn't enough as the Owls sealed the second set victory with an Erika Benson kill.
- The Owls jumped out to a hot start in the final set with a 10-2 run. Mercy fought its way back from an eight-point deficit with an 11-4 run that brought them within one of SCSU. The Owls responded with 7-1 run that was enough to put the Mavericks on their heels. After an even balance of play for the final eight points, the Owls firepower and strong start allowed them to capture the set three victory and secure the sweep.
