Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls To Pace, 4-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut State University field hockey dropped a Northeast 10 Conference matchup to Pace, 4-1, at Jess Dow Field. With the loss, the Owls drop to 2-11 overall and 2-8 in the NE10 while Pace improves to 10-5 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

Fifth-year graduate student Megan Habakangas (Columbia, Conn.) scored her first career goal for the Owls, with Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.) and Grace Conselyea (MIlford, Pa.) assisting on the Owls only goal. In the cage, Janelle Ward (Kitchener, Ontario) stopped 11 of Pace's 15 shots-on-goal in the game.

How It Happened
  • Pace's Krista Dietz scored her first of two goals to put the Setters on the board before Melissa Ritchie scored off a corner on a pass from Mia Radici to give Pace a 2-0 lead after the first quarter.
  • Southern got on the board midway through the second quarter when the Owls worked for a corner set. Shaw inserted the ball to Conselyea who slid a pass to her left to Habakangas. Habakangas rifled a shot through traffic to the opposite post to cut Pace's lead to one goal.
  • Jessica Wolfe and Dietz both scored in the third quarter to push their lead back to three goals, 4-1.
Notes
  • Ward recorded her seventh-consecutive game with double-digit saves, while also posting her 11th in 13 games this season.
  • Shaw picked up her team-leading fifth assist and ninth point of the year. The two-sport student-athlete, who also suits up for Southern's women's lacrosse team, has now recorded a point in three-straight games, totaling a goal and three assists in that span.
  • With an assist against Pace following a goal against Southern New Hampshire on Oct. 16, Conselyea has now registered a point in back-to-back games.
