Volleyball Ousts Adelphi, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team swept Adelphi University, 3-0, at Pelz Gymnasium. The Owls improved to 18-8 overall and 4-3 in the Northeast 10, while the Panthers fell to 14-8 overall and 3-4 in the NE10.

Graduate student Abigail Epstein (Crystal River, Fla.) led the Owls on the offensive front with 15 kills, which was good for a .448% hitting percentage, and added 10 digs and two blocks. Sophomore Krishnalei So'oto (Oceanside, Calif.) picked up 21 digs and two services. Sophomore Taylor Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) tallied 31 assists, 10 digs and a block. Junior Gabriela Gaibur (Monroe, N.Y.) registered 19 digs, and sophomore Kacey Deecher (Granby, Mass.) and graduate student Gabriela Vazquez (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) both collected 11 digs each.

Player Notes
  • Taylor Jones has recorded double-digit assists in every single one of her 23 appearances this season. She picked up her 12th game with 30-or-more assists and had her eighth double-double of the season with 31 assists and 10 digs. 
  • Jones also recorded her third-consecutive double-double and had her eighth game with at least 10 digs.
  • Erika Benson now has 16 games this season with multiple blocks. 
  • Abigail Epstein recorded her third double-double and 13th double-digit kill game. Her 10 digs tied a season-high, done two other times. 
  • Epstein now has 18 games with multiple blocks. 
  • Gabriela Gaibur recorded her 21st game with at least 10 digs and ninth game with at least 15 digs.
  • Kacey Deecher now has six consecutive games with at least 10 digs after not having any in her first 17 games. 
  • Krishnalei So'oto now has seven games this season with at least 20 digs, five of them coming in the month of October. 
 
Team Notes
  • This was the first time Southern Connecticut has swept Adelphi since 1996.
  • This is the first time in series history between these two programs that Southern has won consecutive games against Adelphi.
  • Southern had six players record at least 10 digs in a game for the first time since the 2017 NE10 Conference Tournament Championship game on Nov. 18 against New Haven. During that game, Vazquez recorded 23 digs, Anna Venard recorded 20 digs, Leanna Jadus recorded 18 digs, Alexandria Jurgens recorded 15 digs, Jillian Chambers recorded 13 digs, and Jennifer Dawson recorded 11 digs.
