Southern Connecticut State University football is back in action on Friday, Oct. 8 when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Assumption College at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium at 7 p.m. The Owls enter the game tied with the Greyhounds in the league standings at 2-1 in conference play and are 3-2 overall while Assumptions is 2-3 on the season.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ASSUMPTION
- Southern is 11-8 in 19 meetings all-time against Assumption.
- Southern took the first 11 meetings between the two teams, but haven't beaten the Greyhounds since 2011. Assumption enters Friday night on an eight-game winning streak against SCSU.
- Assumption took a 19-7 decision against the Owls in 2019.
- In that game, Jonmichael Bivona (Stamford, Conn.) ran for a team-leading 89 yards, including a season-best 45-yard run.
- Senior quarterback Matt Sanzaro (Wethersfield, Conn.) passed for 124 yards and scrambled for 22 more while also throwing one touchdown.
- Sanzaro hooked up with Izaiah Sanders (Stamford, Conn.) in the second half for his first touchdown of the season. Sanders had four catches for 46 yards.Â
- Defensively, Kyle Armour (Newington, Conn.) registered a team-best nine tackles, including six solo bids.
- Harrison Smith (Rochester, Mass.) and Hasan Dominick (Jersey City, N.J.) both tallied five tackles apiece while JayChar Howell (Yonkers, N.Y.) had three tackles, a pass break-up and a fumble recovery.Â
THE OWLS LAST TIME OUT
- Southern is coming off a 23-7 victory at home against American International on Oct. 1. The win kept the Owls undefeated at home (2-0) and pushed them to 2-1 in the NE10.
- After allowing an AIC touchdown on the Yellow Jackets opening drive, the Owls defense clamped down and help AIC scoreless for the rest of the game.
- Kwadir Delgado-Mcintyre (Hamden, Conn.) led the Southern defense with two of the Owls' three interceptions, with Ja'Kai Young had the other.
- Delgado-McIntyre also returned two punts for a combined 60 yards.
- Harrison Smith (Rochester, Mass.) had a game-high two sacks, while Richard Williams, Jr. (Westersfield, Conn.) and Robert Nunez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had a team-high eight tackles.
- Sidney Young (Hartford, Conn.) had four tackles in the game and also blocked a field goal attempt.
- Joe Bernard (Nashua, N.H.) threw for 241 yards, while T.J. Gardner (Windsor, Conn.), Ezequiel Johnson (Monmouth Junction, N.J.), and Diante Wilson (Union, N.J.) all recorded rushing touchdowns.
- Combined, the Owls backfield accounted for a season-high 151 yards on 44 carries. Â
- Izaiah Sanders (Stamford, Conn.) lead all receivers with a game-high 108 yards.Â
KWADIR DELGADO-MCINTYRE EARNS NE10 DEFENSIVE AND SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS
- Kwadir Delgado-McIntyre was named the Northeast 10 Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week as well as the Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the NE10 on Monday, Oct. 4.
- Delgado-McIntyre had a career game in the Owls' win against the Yellow Jackets, matching his career-best with two interceptions in the game. His first interception came late in the first half with the game tied, 7-7. He then picked off his second pass on the Owls' 23-yard line that halted another Yellow Jackets drive.
- He also broke-up two more passes, both deep in the Owls' defensive zone, and returned two punts for a total of 60 yards, including a 31-yard return that was the longest of the season for the Owls.
- Delgado-McIntyre, who graduated in 2021 and returned after receiving another year of competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic cancellation last year, currently leads all Owls' defensive backs in tackles with 28, while ranking third overall on the roster. He's also second on the team with four tackles-for-loss and leads the team in passes defended with three break-ups and two interceptions. He also forced one fumble this season.Â
- It was the second defensive player of the week award in Delgado-McIntyre's career after also receiving the honor in 2018.
- He's also the second player to earn the honor this season after Richard Williams, Jr. won the award during the first week of the season.Â
NOTES
- T.J. Gardner leads the Owls' in carries (37) and yards (189) as well as touchdowns (2).
- Diante Wilson is close behind Gardner at 183 yards rushing on 33 carries for a team-best 5.5 yards per carry while also averaging a team-high 66 yards per game.
- Five different Owls have rushed for touchdowns in the Owls' first five games of the season, including Gardner, Wilson, Ezequiel Johnson and Jackson Ostrowsky.
- In three games since filling in for preseason starter Ostrowsky, Joe Bernard has passed for 581 yards for a 193.67 yards-per-game average.
- The Owls receiving core is highlighted by Izaiah Sanders' NE10-leading 27 catches for 409 yards in five games, good for a 15.15 yards-per-catch average and 81.8 yards per game.
- Sanders also leads the Owls with three touchdowns and is one of four players in the NE10 with 400 yards receiving this season.
- Three different receivers have scored twice, including Sanders (3), Tylon Papallo and Tye Hodge.
- Papallo leads the Owls in yards-per-catch (16.25).
- In two games this season, Ryan Soules has six catches for 143 yards with a 23.83 yards-per-catch average.
- Szymon Gawlick leads the NE10 with six field goals, on six attempts, and is also 15-for-16 on extra-point attempts. He leads all NE10 with 31 points to date, and ranks fourth overall among all NE10 athletes.
- On defense, Hasan Dominick ranks 11th in the NE10 with a team-high 31 tackles for the season, including 20 solo tackles.
- Dominick also ranks in the top 10 in the NE10 in sacks (2).
- Kwadir Delgado-McIntyre has a career-best 28 tackles and joins Dominick as one of nine players with 20 solo tackles for the season.
- Delgado-McIntyre also recorded four tackles for a loss while his 41 total yards for loss ranks second in the NE10.
- Delgado-McIntyre has also recorded on forced fumble and a NE10-best two interceptions as well as three pass breakups.
