Women's Basketball Hosts Georgian Court, Bloomfield to Open 2021-22 Season

The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team will open the 2021-2022 season by hosting the SCSU Conference Challenge featuring the Owls, University of New Haven, Georgian Court University, and Bloomfield College. 
 
Spectator Policy 
Southern Connecticut Athletics have announced their spectator policy for all Fall and Winter 2021-22 sports to allow spectators at competitions. Please find the details of the spectator policy here.  

All-Time Against Georgian Court: 2-0
Last Time They Met: Southern and Georgian Court haven't faced one another since Dec. 30, 2015. The Owls took the victory, 79-59, behind a 19-point, 17-rebound effort from Jackie Beathea.

All-Time Against Bloomfield: 1-1
Last Time They Met: This pair last met on Nov. 10, 2019 where the Owls took a 100-51 victory over the Bears. Amani Boston had 15 points, six assists, and four rebounds, while Alexa Kellner chipped in 13 points and Jessica Fressle had 10.

Season Preview
Southern returns five members of the 2019-2020 season with Jessica Fressle, Kiana Steinauer, Amani Boston, Alexa Kellner, and Blake Greer rejoining the fold. The Owls finished the 2019-20 season 10-18 overall and 4-15 in NE10 conference play. Fressle was named First Team All-ECAC, while Kellner was tabbed to the NE10 All-Rookie Team. Fressle led the Owls in points (401), rebounds (155), points per game (14.9), and three-point percentage (37.4%). Kellner led the squad in three-pointers (58), while Boston was second in assists (59).

Meagan Bianchi, Patricia Conroy, Delaney Connors, and Zoë Amalbert are set to make their Southern debuts in the opening weekend of play. Bianchi and Conroy joined the Owls as graduate students from Bryant and UAlbany, respectively. Connors and Amalbert joined the Owls after transferring from Mount Saint Mary's and New York Tech, respectively.

Delaney Haines, Jillian Martin, Katie Williamson, Shauna Russell, and Renza Milner are set to make their collegiate debuts for the Owls. Martin, a sophomore, is returning this season after the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the pandemic, while Haines, Williamson, Russell, and Milner are in their first year with the squad.

Southern was picked third in the 2021-22 Northeast 10 Conference Southwest Division Preseason Coaches' Poll. Adelphi was picked by the conference's coaches to win the Southwest Division after earning six first place votes. New Haven was picked second with four first place votes, followed by Southern, Le Moyne, Pace, American International, and Saint Rose.

Southern will hit the road for its first road game of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 17 when the Owls travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. to face Dominican College in non-conference action.
