Volleyball Defeats Stonehill on Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut volleyball defeated Stonehill College, 3-1, on Senior Day at Pelz Gymnasium. The Owls improved to 23-9 overall and 9-4 in the Northeast 10, while the Skyhawks fell to 20-8 overall and 10-3 in the NE10.

Prior to the start the start of the match, the SCSU Volleyball team honored its eight-member senior class: Jamie Allen, Gabriela Vazquez, Lillee Olson, Megan Mercer, Sophia Castellano, Erika Benson, Abigail Epstein, and Heliceliz Rivera.

Senior Erika Benson (Kings Park, N.Y.) led the attack for Southern Connecticut with a career-high 18 kills to go along with four blocks. Junior Gabriela Gaibur (Monroe, N.Y.) recorded a double-double of 15 digs and 12 kills, and two blocks. Sophomore Taylor Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) tallied 46 assists, 12 digs, and four blocks. Sophomore's Krishnalei So'oto (Oceanside, Calif.) and Kacey Deecher (Granby, Mass.) recorded 23 and 16 digs, respectively.
 
Notes
  • Gabriela Gaibur recorded her 20th double-double of the season with 15 digs and 12 kills.
  • Taylor Jones tallied her 11th double-double of the season with 46 assists and 12 digs.
  • Erika Benson's 18 kills were a career-high. Her previous career-high was set on Nov. 6, 2021 against Assumption when she had 16.
  • Abigail Epstein's nine blocks were a career-high. Her previous career-high of seven digs came on Oct. 30, 2021 against Assumption.
  • Krishnalei So'oto recorded her 24th game in double-digit digs. This was also So'oto's 10th game this season with at least 20 digs.
  • Kacey Deecher recorded her eighth game this season with double-digit digs.
  • Taylor Jones' four blocks tied a career-high, which was previously set on Sept. 10, 2021 against Post.
