Women's Basketball Hosts New Haven in Elm City Battle on Wednesday, Dec. 1

The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team will welcome the University of New Haven to Moore Field House on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. This will be the first of two meetings between both sides. They will meet against at Charger Gymnasium  on Feb. 16, 2022.

All-Time Against New Haven: 27-45
Last Time They Met: The Owls took a tough 61-56 loss to New Haven on Feb. 19, 2020. Jessica Fressle led the Owls with 16 points, while Alexa Kellner and Imani Wheeler collected 11 points and 10 points, respectively.


Matchup Preview

  • The Owls are coming off a 68-52 non-conference victory of Holy Family, while the Chargers are coming off a 56-43 non-conference victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas, both on Sunday, Nov. 28. 
  • Multiple Owls have charged the offense through the first five games. Jessica Fressle is currently averaging a double-double of 18.0 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per game. Patricia Conroy leads the Owls from three-point range with a shooting percentage of 42.4-percent. Zoë Amalbert leads in assists (25), steals (11), and field goals (25). Delaney Connors is averaging 12.4 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds with 45. 
  • New Haven plays a balanced game with Camryn DeBose leading the Chargers with 97 points and 11 steals. Aurora Deshaies leads in rebounds with 44, offensive and defensive rebounds (23, 44), and points per game with 11.2, while Brie Pergola leads in assists, is second on the team in points (84), tied for second in steals (10) and assists (21). 
  • The Chargers have taken the last four meetings with the Owls. Southern Connecticut has not defeated New Haven since Jan. 31, 2018. 
  • New Haven has dropped back-to-back conference games on the road against Le Moyne, 65-48, and at home against Pace, 72-51. Southern's only conference game of the year was a 61-58 victory on the road over American International College on Nov. 23.

  • Zoë Amalbert is first in the conference in total assists with 25 and fourth in assists per game with 5.0. 
  • Jessica Fressle is third in rebounds per game (13.0) and fifth in the conference in points per game (18.0). Fressle is also third in total rebounds with 65 and seventh in points (90).
  • Patricia Conroy is tied for first in the conference in three-pointers made with 14 on the season.
  • As a team, the Owls are first in the conference in three-pointers made (43) and third in three-point shooting percentage (32.3). 
  • Southern is second in the conference in rebounds per game with 46.4 and assists with 16.6 per game.


The Owls in the NCAA

  • Zoë Amalbert is tied for 19th overall in assists per game (5.5) and tied for 41st in total assists (22).
  • Jessica Fressle is tied for 17th in rebounds per game (11.8) and tied for 45th in total rebounds (47).

Southern will play the third of its four-game home stand on Saturday, Dec. 4 when the Owls host Le Moyne in NE10 action at Moore Field House.
