SCSU Gymnastics Announces 2021-22 Schedule

12/2/2021 9:50:00 AM

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics teams has announced its 2021-22 schedule, highlighted by a pair of meets at James Moore Field House on Jan. 15 and Feb. 12.

This season will also celebrate the inception of the Gymnastics East Conference. The GEC will be composed of founding members Brown University, College of William & Mary, Cornell University, Southern Connecticut State University, University of Bridgeport, University of Pennsylvania, West Chester University and Yale University. Since the NCAA doesn't recognize division classification in gymnastics competition, the creation of a conference with regional Division I and Division II schools benefits all of the programs.

The Owls open the season on Jan. 7-8 at the University of New Hampshire, followed by its 2021-22 home opener against Brown for a GEC matchup at Moore Field House on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2021. The Owls then find themselves on the road for their next three meets, competing in three-straight GEC meets at Bridgeport on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Brown on Friday, Jan. 28 and at Yale on Sunday, Feb. 6.

Southern returns home for the second of their two home meets for the year when they host Rhode Island College on Saturday, Feb. 12, with Senior Day festivities slated for the start of the afternoon's event. Southern will then be traveling for the remainder of the season, competing at Yale on Sunday, Feb. 13 followed by the United for Her Pink Invitational hosted by Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. on Friday, Feb. 18. The Owls' last meet for the month of February places them at Springfield on Sunday, Feb. 27.

The first two weeks of March present three more road meets at Temple on Thursday, Mar. 3, at Rutgers on Friday, Mar. 4 and against at New Hampshire on Sunday, Mar. 13 to wrap-up the regular season.

The first-ever Gymnastics East Conference Championships will land on Saturday, Mar. 19, with the host site yet to be determined. The Owls are hopeful for NCAA Regional competition on Friday, Apr. 1 and the USA Gymnastics Nationals hosted by Cornell University, beginning on Thursday, Apr. 7.
