NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut women's basketball team captured its fourth-straight victory by defeating The College of Saint Rose, 75-42, at Moore Field House. The Owls improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast 10, while the Golden Knights fell to 2-5 overall 2-3 in the NE10.

Southern's offense was led by graduate student Jessica Fressle (Levittown, N.Y.), who had 23 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior Delaney Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) had 15 points, while senior Zoë Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) had 13 points, 10 assists, and four steals.

How It Happened

  • After playing to a virtual deadlock through the first quarter, the Owls held a 14-13 lead over the Golden Knights through the first frame. The Owls quickly turned up the pressure, to the tune of a 9-0 run to open the second quarter and jumped out to a 23-13 lead in the first three minutes of the quarter.
  • With the Owls' leading 29-20, Alexa Kellner (Stamford, Conn.) knocked down back-to-back three-pointers on consecutive trips down the court to give the Owls a 35-20 lead. Amalbert then converted to give the Owls a 37-20 lead, their largest of the first half.
  • Fressle paced the Owls' offense coming out of the half, as she scored five points in a 10-2 run that saw Southern take a 47-25 lead.
  • Both teams traded baskets through the third quarter as the Owls held onto a 23-point lead heading into the final frame, 60-37.
  • The fourth was all Southern Connecticut and saw six different scorers convert as the Owls held a 15-5 advantage over the final 10 minutes of play.
