SCSU Athletics Update On Spectator Attendance At Spring Sporting Events

3/10/2021 10:04:00 AM

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University Athletics will allow spectators at all home baseball, softball and women's lacrosse games, beginning on Saturday, Apr. 10, 2021. Due to logistical concerns, spectators will not be permitted at the Jim Barber Men's and Women's Track & Invitational on Sunday, Apr. 11, 2021.

"We're very excited to allow the families and friends of our student-athletes to attend games this spring," Interim Director of Athletics Matt Letkowski said. "We know that has been a frustrating time for all of our student-athletes and their families and we thank the University leadership as well as the Northeast 10 Conference to allow us the flexibility to allow spectators."

Families and fans of Southern Connecticut baseball, softball and women's lacrosse should not expect similar allowances in attendance at other Northeast 10 Conference venues. The decision to allow attendance at Southern Connecticut's home venues for baseball, softball and women's lacrosse was made exclusively by the University with permission to do so by the NE10. The Conference has not mandated that any school allow spectators at events, but has allowed schools to set their own spectator attendance policy.

"Naturally, we hope that all spectators respect and adhere to our guidelines," Letkowski said. "It's important that everyone follows the rules to allow us to continue to allow spectators. We hope to do so for track & field at their final home meet as well."

All individuals attending baseball, softball and women's lacrosse games will be expected to wear masks during the contest as well as adhering to social distancing of six feet between all individuals, including those in their travel parties. Families and fans for visiting teams will not be permitted at this time.

If Owls fans cannot attend games, SCSU Athletic Communications has committed to video streaming every home game this season. Those games can be accessed on the Official Website of Southern Connecticut Athletics, SCSUOwls.com, on the Live Events page or by clicking on the "Live Video" link on each team's schedule. In addition, fans can visit The Owls Network on the NE10Now platform. In addition, Live Statistics will also be available for each game and highlights will be made available on each team's Twitter and Instagram accounts during, and following games.
