The Southern Connecticut State University softball squad will eye redemption when it faces Adelphi University on Tuesday, April 13th. The two squads met just two weeks ago where Adelphi edged Southern in both games. The Panthers currently sit in first of the Southwest Division of the NE10, while the Owls sit fourth behind Le Moyne (2nd) and New Haven (3rd). 
 
Spectator Policy
Southern Connecticut State University Athletics will allow spectators at all home baseball, softball and lacrosse games, beginning on Saturday, Apr. 10, 2021. All individuals will be expected to wear masks during the contest as well as adhering to social distancing of six feet between all individuals, including those in their travel parties. Families and fans for visiting teams will not be permitted at this time.

All-Time Against Adelphi: 14-28
The Last Time They Met: The Owls and the Panthers last squared off on March 24 where Adelphi narrowly captured both victories, 2-1 and 3-0. Adelphi has been victorious against Southern Connecticut in their last 14 outings stemming back to April 5, 2017.
 
Players to Watch
It's expected that game one will be a battle in the circle between two pitching powerhouses in Southern's Jazmyn Martinez and Adelphi's Ally Muller.
 
The Owls: Martinez has been a solid force for the Owls. She sits at 5-2 on the year with 43.1 innings pitched and accounts for 37 of the four-player bullpens 78 strikeouts. She is coming off of a six-inning performance in the Owls 4-2 win over Pace on April 10 and eyeing victory against the Panthers.
 
The Panthers: Muller is coming into the matchup as the reigning NE10 Pitcher of the Week after collecting three wins including back-to-back shutouts against New Haven. She pitched a total of 19 innings, totaling 25 strikeouts with just seven total hits allowed. She currently sits 7-2 on the year with 55 innings pitched.
 
Last Time Out
After dropping the last nine meetings against Pace dating back to March 17, 2017, the Southern Connecticut State University softball team swept the Setters in conference play, 4-2 and 5-2 on April 10.
 
The Owls saw solid performances from their four-player pitching rotation:
  • Jazmyn Martinez pitched the first six innings of game one with two strikeouts to earn the win. 
  • Jessica Perucki picked up the save in game one and went on to pitch four innings and earn the win in game two.
  • Rachel Miller saw time in relief of Perucki for two innings in game two. 
  • Emma Gorham sealed the victory with the first save of her collegiate career in game two.
 
Offensively, Sara Buscetto went 3-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base and a walk, while Jacqueline Dumont went 3-for-8 including a home run with two RBI and one run scored. 
 
The Owls in the NE10
  • Sara Buscetto and Liz DeRosa are tied for eighth in the conference in runs scored with nine.
  • DeRosa is second in the conference in doubles with six, while Jacqueline Dumont is tied for third with five.
  • Dumont is tied for fourth in the conference in hits with 17 and tied for fourth in RBI with 11 on the year.
  • Sara Buscetto narrowly leads the conference in stolen bases with 14, which is two more than Adelphi's Sophia Ciccetti (12) and four more than Adelphi's Emily Whitman. 
  • Jazmyn Martinez is seventh in the NE10 in innings pitched (43.1), tied for fourth in wins (5) and tied for sixth in complete games with four. 
  • Martinez is also fourth in strikeouts (37), while Jessica Perucki is sixth with 33.

Quick Facts
  • Sara Buscetto collected her 14th stolen base of the season against Pace on April 10. Buscetto now has 59 career stolen bases, second all-time in SCSU history and five stolen bases shy of tying Brittany Bucko (64), who currently sits first all-time.
