The Southern Connecticut State University softball squad will hit the road to face American International College in Northeast 10 conference play on April 17 and April 18. The Owls and Yellows Jackets will play doubleheaders beginning at noon on both days.  Southern currently sit in third of the Southwest Division of the NE10 behind Adelphi (1st) and New Haven (2nd), while the AIC sit fifth.

Due to the continued threat to the safety of student-athletes and staff with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, American International College has chosen to continue the policy of not permitting spectators at home sporting events during the spring 2021 season.

All-Time Against Adelphi: 16-14
The Last Time They Met: The Owls and the Yellow Jackets last faced each other on March 31, 2019 where AIC captured both victories of the doubleheader, 6-1 and 5-4. 
 
Scouting the Series
  • AIC hasn't played a game since April 7 where they dropped a pair to Adelphi, 1-0 and 8-2.
  • SCSU is coming off a 1-1 doubleheader against Adelphi on April 13, a 1-0 loss and a 8-4 win.
  • The Owls are 3-2 in their last five, while the Yellow Jackets are 0-5.  
  • In their last five meetings, the Yellow Jackets are 4-1 against the Owls.
  • AIC's Alexis Jimenez leads the Yellow Jackets in batting average (.315) and hits (17).

Last Time Out

The Owls snapped a 14-game losing streak against Adelphi dating back to April 8, 2016 and snapped the Panthers' six-game winning streak.
  • Sophomore Jessica Perucki threw a solid performance in the circle and contributed offensively for the Owls. In 31 batters faced, Perucki struck out eight and allowed five hits en route to earning her fourth win of the season. At the plate, she tallied her first career home run with a three-run blast in the first inning.
  • Junior Jacqueline Dumont went 3-for-4 in game two, including a home run and a double with three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Graduate student Sara Buscetto went 1-for-3 including a walk, three stolen bases and three runs scored.
  • Freshman Emily Lange went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

  • Jacqueline Dumont is first in the conference in RBI with 14 and tied for second in hits (21) with Le Moyne's Dominique Russo, and in a four-way tie for second in home runs (3).
  • Sara Buscetto leads the conference in stolen bases with 17.
  • Liz DeRosa and Dumont are tied for second in the conference in doubles with six.
  • Buscetto is tied for fifth in runs scored with 12.
  • Dumont is fourth in batting average (.429) and fifth in slugging (.735). 
  • Jazmyn Martinez is fifth in the NE10 in innings pitched (50.1), tied for fourth in wins (5) and tied for fifth in complete games with five. 
  • Martinez is also fifth in strikeouts (44), while Jessica Perucki is sixth with 41.

  • Sara Buscetto collected her 15th, 16th and 17th stolen bases of the season against Adelphi on April 13. Buscetto now has 62 career stolen bases, second all-time in SCSU history and two stolen bases shy of tying Brittany Bucko (64), who currently sits first all-time.
  • Jessica Perucki collected her fourth win of the season in the circle and her first collegiate home run at the plate against Adelphi on April 13. The last pitcher to collect a win and hit a home run in the same game was Audrey Dolloff on March 29, 2016 in a 12-4 victory against Dowling College.
  • Adelphi had not allowed any home runs this season until Jessica Perucki and Jacqueline Dumont both hit home runs in game two.
  • The last time two different Owls hit home runs in the same game was on February 16, 2019 when both Jacqueline Dumont and Kelsey White notched home runs.
  • The last time two different Owls hit home runs in the same game at home was on April 21, 2018 off the bats of Sara Buscetto and Delaney Turner.
  • Game two saw the most runs Adelphi has allowed this season and the most the Owls have scored against Adelphi since their last win against the Panthers on April 8, 2016, when they scored 11.
  • The last time Adelphi allowed eight hits in a game was in its last loss against New Haven in a 7-2 defeat on April 3, 2021.
