ALL-TIME AGAINST NEW HAVEN
New Haven has won 24 of the 31 games all-time between the two teams dating back to the first game between the two teams on Oct. 31, 1981, which was a 28-28 tie at Bowen Field.
THE LAST TIME THEY PLAYED
- Southern's come-back bid against New Haven fell short as the Chargers took a 23-20 decision to win the Elm City Cup at the Owls' Homecoming game.
- Jonmichael Bivona (Stamford, Conn.) totaled 77 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns while freshman quarterback Jackson Ostrowsky (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) was 19-for-33 for 209 yards with one rushing touchdown.Â
- Brandon Swain-Price (Stoughton, Mass.) led all Owls receivers with five catches for 80 yards.
- Defensively, the Owls were led by Rich Souffrant's seven tackles, which included ½ sack. He also tallied a pass break-up and one quarterback hurry.Â
- Anton Juncaj had six tackles, including one for a loss, while Mekhi Barnett and Matthew Weiss both had five tackles apiece. Weiss had a ½ sack and two quarterback hurries while Barnett also had an interception.
THE OWLS' LAST TIME OUT
- Southern is coming off a thrilling NE10 opening that saw the Owls knock off Saint Anselm, 34-31, with time expired on a game-winning field goal by Szymon Gawlick.
- Gawlick, a transfer from Johnson & Wales where he played soccer, booted the game-winner with no time on the clock. After a mishandled snap teased overtime, Saint Anselm was whistled for a penalty, given Gawlick another shot. Gawlick split the uprights from 27 yards to give the Owls the win in their home opener.
- Izaiah Sanders (Stamford, Con.) pulled in eight catches for 85 yards including a pair of touchdowns while Tye Hodge (Alexandria, Va.) had five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.Â
- Tylon Papallo (Meriden, Conn.) also scored for the Owls while T.J. Gardner turned in an 11-carry, 102-yard performance.
- Defensively, Hasan Dominick (Jersey City, N.J.) and Aaron Kelly (Washington, D.C.) – making his SCSU debut after transferring from UMass – both picked off passes while Dominick had four tackles and one quarterback hurry. Â
NOTES
- Jackson Ostrowsky finished the day 17-for-23 for 203 yards and three touchdown passes. Joe Bernard played the second half and was 9-for-16 for 75 yards and a touchdown.
- Ostrowsky's three touchdown passes match his season high that he matched in the Owls' win at Central Connecticut. He now has three touchdown passes in five of his last six games played.
- T.J. Gardner's 100-yard day was his first for the Owls. On just 11 carries, Gardner averaged 9.3 yards per carry with a 56-yard run for the Owls' longest of the season.
- Sanders' eight catches were the most in a game this season for the Owls, while Hodge's 57-yard touchdown reception was the longest score of the season for Southern.

- In addition to his two field goals, Gawlick was also 4-for-4 on point-after attempts.
