SCSU Women's Soccer Comes From Behind To Tie SNHU, 2-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer bounced back from a two-goal, halftime deficit to tie Southern New Hampshire, 2-2, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the tie, Southern goes to 5-5-3 overall and 3-3-3 in conference play while SNHU moves to 5-2-4 overall with a 2-2-4 mark in NE10 play.

Southern New Hampshire scored the two fastest goals to start a game against Southern this season, potting both inside the first four minutes of the game. Anne Sikkema converted on a pass from Georgia Greene less than a minute into the game before Victoria Roulston broke up a pass in front of the Owls' goal before scoring the Penmen's second goal of the contest.

From that point, Southern turned the game around, holding possession of the ball for most of the first half. Owls' goalkeeper Abby Allen (Orange, Conn.) saw just two shots on goal, which she steered away, before the break.

Coming out of halftime, the Owls countered with a goal by graduate student Britt Verstegen (Ede, Netherlands) – her first with the Owls. Off a direct kick, the ball was knocked down in front of the goal before bouncing to Verstegen who booted it past SNHU keeper Hannah Rose.

Less than six minutes later, Amanda Dustin (Marshfield, Mass.) took away a pass deep in the Owls' defensive zone and sent a perfect ball down the far sideline to Julia Alicea (Columbia, Conn.). Alicea, all by herself, sent a pass wide to Kelsey Burr (Wallingford, Conn.) who touched it back to Alicea at the top of the box. Alicea unleashed a blast on goal that picked the top right corner and tied the game at 1-1.

Southern is back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 when it hosts American International for a NE10 matchup at Jess Dow Field at 5 p.m.
