SCSU Women's Soccer Blanks American International, 2-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer defeated American International, 2-0, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improve to 6-5-3 overall and 4-3-3 in NE10 play while American International drops to 5-5-3 overall and 3-5-2 in conference play. The Owls entered the game one point in front of the Yellow Jackets in the NE10 standings and now sit four points ahead in fourth place.

Aries Bell (Beacon Falls, Conn.) and Kelsey Burr (Wallingford, Conn.) both scored for the Owls while Kylee Slavik (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up a point on an assist. In goal, Abby Allen (Orange, Conn.) recorded her sixth shutout of the season with a two-save performance.

Bell put the Owls on the board with less than 14 minutes to play in the first half. The sophomore picked up a loose ball in the Owls defensive zone and dribbled the length of the field before blasting a shot on goal that found the top-right corner to give Southern a 1-0 lead. It was Bell's first goal of the season.

Ten minutes into the second half, Burr scored her third goal of the season to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Slavik carried the ball down the right side of the field, bringing it deep into the corner before crossing a pass to the far post. Burr was waiting where she headed the bouncing ball past AIC's keeper for the insurance goal.

Southern is undefeated in its last seven games at Jess Dow Field as they host a 4-0-3 record on its home turf, where they have outscored their opponents this season 12-3. Southern will play its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 22 when it hosts Bentley at 1 p.m. with Senior Day Festivities slated for the start of the game.
