Southern Connecticut men's basketball resumes Northeast 10 Conference play when it hosts Pace on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House. Southern is currently 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the NE10 while Pace stands at 5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Zack Penn Named To NE10 Honor Roll
  • Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.) was named to the Northeast 10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Nov. 28. 
  • In the Owls' 83-60 win at Molloy, Penn led all Owls with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Penn also grabbed nine rebounds, including five on the offensive end. For the year, Penn is averaging eight points and five rebounds per game while also ranking second on the team with six blocked shots. 
The Owls' Last Time Out
  • Southern defeated Molloy, 83-60, in a non-conference matchup in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-3 overall while Molloy drops to 0-6. The win was also the 100th of Owls' head coach Scott Burrell's career.
  • Owls grad student Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.) had a team-leading 16 points as well as nine rebounds while shooting 6-for-9 from the floor.
  • Penn led four Owls in double figures as Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) had 15 points, four assists and three steals, while Sean James (West Hartford, Conn.) had 13 points. 
  • Kazell Stewart (East Hartford, Conn.) finished with 11 points and nine boards to go along with three blocks in the win. 
  • Cherif Diarra (Queens, N.Y.) had six points and a team-leading 10 rebounds with two blocks.
  • The Owls' 23-point win was Southern's largest margin of victory since the Owls defeated NYIT, 95-62, on Feb. 5, 2020. 
Owls Notes
  • Ulyen Coleman leads Southern with 14.0 points per game as well as seven three-pointers in five games. 
  • Coleman's season-best of 22 points came against Bridgeport on Nov. 13. 
  • Marty Silvera checks-in at 11 points per game as well as 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and a conference-leading 2.2 steals per game. 
  • Kazell Stewart is averaging 10.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest with 1.2 blocks per game while shooting a NE10-leading 61.8% from the floor. 
  • Sean James has registered an 8.6 per game clip while shooting 41.7% (5-12) from three-point range. 
  • Penn checks-in at 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest with 1.2 blocks per game. 
  • Cherif Diarra leads Southern with 6.6 rebounds per contest to go along with 5.6 points and a team-best 1.6 blocks per contest.  
Scouting The Setters
  • Brandon Powell, an NE10 Third Team pick in 2021-22, leads Pace with 16.0 points per game while also averaging 5.3 rebounds per contest and a team-leading 17 three-pinters on 42.5% shooting from long range for the year. 
  • Former Owl Lyron Bennett is averaging 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. 
  • Bryan Powell, a NE10 First Team selection last year, is averaging 11.7 points and a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game. 
  • Frankyn Batista leads Pace with 6.4 rebounds per contest to go along with 6.7 points per game. 
Up Next For The Owls
Southern will travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1:30 p.m. The Owls will then travel to Adelphi on Tuesday, Dec. 6 before returning home to host Saint Rose on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
