NEW HAVEN, Conn. -Â The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost to Pace, 77-50, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022. Southern falls to 6-13 overall and 3-10 in the NE10, while the Setters improve to 15-8 overall and 11-5 in the NE10.
Logan Bagshaw (Cumberland, Maine)Â scored 11 points and made four of his eight shot attempts from the field, and went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, whileÂ
C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) scored 10 and went 3-for-6 overall and 2-for-5 from three-point range. Â
How It HappenedÂ
First Half
- Pace hit on nine of their first 13 shots and took a 26-8 lead in the first nine minutes. Bagshaw made two three-pointers early on for the Owls. Southern scored seven of the next nine points to cut into the lead, with Jamaal Waters (Hartford, Conn.) scoring on a highlight-reel dunk and Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) converting an and-one opportunity.Â
- Pace scored 12 straight points to increase their lead to 40-15 with just under a minute to go in the first half before Elmin Redzepagic (Wolcott, Conn.)Â tipped in a missed layup to halt the run. Waters made two free throws to create some momentum for the Owls before Pace took a 43-19 first half lead.Â
Second Half
- Seaforth connected on his first two shots of the half on his way to five straight points to cut into Pace's lead. Southern outscored Pace 12-7 from the 18:17 mark to 12:39 remaining, with Leo Chaikin (South Hero, Vt.) contributing four points and Bagshaw knocking down another three-pointer.Â
- Pace took their largest lead of the game with 8:14 remaining before Seaforth knocked down another three-pointer. Waters then converted on an and-one attempt to give Southern six consecutive points.Â
- The Owls outscored Pace 15-6 in the final seven minutes and 38 seconds and held the Setters to 1-for-9 from the field and forced four turnovers.Â
Notes
- Bagshaw recorded his second career double-digit scoring game, and has made nine of his last 17 three-point attempts.
- Seaforth now has 10 games this season with at least 10 points scored, and six in his last nine games
- Seaforth is now up to 927 career points.Â
