Men's Basketball Defeated By Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost to Le Moyne, 78-62, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Ted Grant Court on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022. The Owls falls to 6-14 overall and 3-11 in the NE10, while the Dolphins improve to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in the NE10.

Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) had a team-high 13 points and collected five rebounds and four assists. C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) scored 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Jamaal Waters (Hartford, Conn.) recorded 10 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. 

How It Happened
First Half:
  • Both teams played almost evenly through the first six minutes, but Southern trailed 11-9 despite Ulyen Coleman's (Brockton, Mass.) transition dunk off a pass from Bennett. 
  • After six straight points from Le Moyne, Bennett scored six of the next seven points for Southern to bring the score to 17-16 with 11:23 remaining. Le Moyne responded by going on an 11-2 run to take a 28-18 lead.
  • Seaforth knocked down two three-pointer's over the next three minutes to cut the score to 33-26 with 4:21 remaining. Le Moyne scored six of the final eight first half points and took a 39-28 lead into halftime. 
Second Half:
  • Southern and Le Moyne scored 11 points each in the first six minutes of the second half, with five different Southern players scoring at least one point. Le Moyne then outscored Southern 27-9 to take a 77-48 lead with 4:23 left in the game. 
  • Southern outscored the Dolphins 14-1 to end the game, and held Le Moyne to 0-for-4 shooting and forced four turnovers. Elmin Redzepagic (Wolcott, Conn.) scored four points during the scoring run and made both of his field goal attempts.

Notes:
  • Seaforth is now up to 984 career points after his recording 12 today. 
  • Waters has reached the double-digit point plateau in two of his last three games, all his first three career starts, while recording nine total blocked shots over that span. 
  • Bennett has scored at least 10 points in 16 of his 20 games played this year.
