Women's Basketball Travels to SNHU for NE10 Tournament Quarterfinals on Monday, Feb. 28

Southern Connecticut women's basketball will travel to Manchester, N.H. to face Southern New Hampshire in the Northeast 10 Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Owls earned the fourth seed in the Southwest Division, while the Penmen earned the first seed in the Northeast Division.

Spectator Policy

  • Fans will be welcomed back to athletic events at all SNHU athletic venues at regular capacity, however, all fans must complete a self COVID health screening, completing the questions found here. Those who answer yes to any of the screening questions should not attend the event.
  • All outside guests, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a face covering when attending sporting events. This includes fans at both indoor and outdoor venues.


All-Time Record Against SNHU: 38-27
Last Time They Met:
 These two teams last met on Jan. 31 where the nationally ranked Penmen defeated the Owls, 70-64, in Manchester. Delaney Connors and Zoë Amalbert led the way for SCSU with 16 points each. Connors grabbed six boards and snagged a pair of steals, while Amalbert dished out three assists. 

The Owls and Penmen in the NE10 Tournament

  • Southern sports a 17-14 record in 31 NE10 postseason tournament games.  
  • SCSU defeated Assumption University in overtime, 65-58, on Feb. 26 to advance to the quarterfinals.
  • Prior to the Owls' win over Assumption in the first round of the 2022 NE10 Tournament, their last appearance in the NE10 tournament was a first round loss to Merrimack College, 75-62, on the road in North Andover, Mass. during the 2018-19 season. This was also their last road postseason appearance. 
  • These two programs have only met one time in postseason play with the Owls taking the the victory, 75-64, on Feb. 25, 2018 in the first round of the NE10 Tournament.
  • SNHU has never made it through the quarterfinal round of the NE10 Tournament. 

Matchup Preview 

  • The Owls are 3-2 in their last five outings. They picked up wins over Saint Michael's (67-53) and Saint Rose (55-46) on the road, and a first round win over Assumption (65-58 OT) at home. Their losses came at the hands of New Haven (71-63) and Stonehill (65-46), both on the road.
  • SNHU finished out the regular season with a 5-0 record. Four of those five games were on the road with wins at Bentley (81-69), Le Moyne (73-63), Franklin Pierce (87-73), and Saint Michael's (69-50). Their lone home victory came against Stonehill (75-69).
  • Jessica Fressle is averaging a double-double of 17.1 points per game and 11.2 rebounds per game. In her last five games, Fressle has averaged a solid 19.2 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per game.  
  • Zoë Amalbert has been the deemed the "Floor General" for her ability to make plays. She leads the conference in total assists (153) and assists per game (6.1), while averaging 13.0 points per game. She has at least three assists in 24 of her 25 games played this season. 
  • Delaney Connors has been a contributor on the floor in more ways than one. This season, Connors is averaging 12.0 points per game, while shooting 41-percent from the field and averaging 2.9 assists per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. She has also hit double-figures in points in 14 of her games this season and topped the 20-point mark three times. She was vital in the Owls first round win over Assumption as she scored the game-tying basket in the fourth quarter to force overtime and had the eventual game-winning three-pointer in overtime.
  • Meg Knollmeyer and Gyanna Russell were the aces for SNHU this season before going down to injury. With their injuries, it allowed for the emergence of Adriana Timberlake and Karlee Ziliak, who have stepped up in their absences.
  • Timberlake is averaging 13.3 points per game, while shooting 44-percent from the field and 39-percent from three point range. In addition, she is averaging 3.1 assists per game and 2.5 rebounds per game this season. Despite a relatively quiet performance in their last game against Saint Michael's, where she notched just nine points and six rebounds, she is still averaging 14.2 points per game.
  • Ziliak is averaging 12.4 points per game, while shooting 46-percent from the field and 32-percent from three-point range. In addition she has 62 assists and 26 steals. In her last five games, she is averaging 15.4 points per game. 

Player Notes 

  • With Jessica Fressle's 1,000th point against Stonehill on Feb. 20, she joined fellow recruitment classmates Kiana Steinauer and Imani Wheeler in the 1,000 point club. 
  • This was just the second time in program history that a trio from the same recruitment class reached 1,000 career points each. It was last done by Gena DePeano, Cindy Beaudreau, and Kim Osborne between 1980 and 1984. 
  • Fressle now sits 20th all-time in program history in career points. The last player to reach 1,000 career points was now-assistant coach Imani Wheeler, who reached the feat in 2020. Fressle also registered her 500th career rebound against Stonehill on Feb. 20. She sits 19th all-time in career rebounds.
  • Jessica Fressle notched her 15th double-double of the season with 24 points and 20 rebounds against Assumption. She also had her eighth game with 20-plus points.
  • Fressle also topped a career-high in rebounds with 20 against Assumption. Her previous career-high was 18 and came against Holy Family on Nov. 28, 2021.
  • Zoë Amalbert has notched at least ten assists in five games this season. She has at least three assists in 24 of her 25 games played this season.
  • Amalbert's 153 assists this season are tied for fifth all-time in program history for single-season assists. With 10 assists against Assumption, Amalbert tied Anabel Perdomo, who had 153 assists during the 2003-04 season.
  • Delaney Connors had her third game with 20-plus points against Assumption. With a 69-percent shooting percentage from the floor against Greyhounds, Connors recorded her second-best shooting percentage of the season. Her career-high came in a massive performance against Adelphi on Jan. 5 when she shot 70-percent from the field.

  • Zoë Amalbert is first in the conference in total assists with 153 and first in assists per game with 6.1.  
  • Jessica Fressle is second in rebounds per game (11.2) and fifth in the conference in points per game (17.1). Fressle is also third in free throws made (119-150), second in total rebounds with 281 and fourth in points (28). 
  • Alexa Kellner is seventh in the conference in three-point shooting percentage (38.2). 
  • As a team, the Owls are first in the conference in three-pointers made (198), first in assists with 16.1 per game, fifth in three-point shooting percentage (31.9), fifth in free throw percentage (74.9). 

SNHU

  • Adriana Timberlake is fifth in the conference in three-point shooting percentage (38.5).
  • Timberlake is also eighth in the conference in total points (345).
  • Jenna Roche and Timberlake are seventh (3.2) and eighth (3.1), respectively in assists per game. 
  • As a team, SNHU is first in three-point shooting percentage (34.2), first in points per game (73.3), second in field goal percentage (43.2), second in rebounds per game (41.8), second in assists per game (15.7), fourth in blocks per game (4.1).
