SCSU Gymnastics Edged At Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics fell to Yale, 194.125-190.600, in a matchup between New Haven's two Gymnastics East Conference teams at John J. Amphitheater.

Bianca Leon (Miami, Fla.) was the Owls top finisher on the Uneven Parallel Bars and the Beam while Hanna Zebdi (Ashburn, Va.) led Southern on the Vault.  Hanna Stahlbrodt (Cicero, N.Y.) posted the Owls top score on the Floor Exercise while also tallying a 38.125 All-Around score.

BARS
  • Yale took the Bars competition, 48.150-47.675.
  • Leon nailed a 9.80 for third place to lead the Owls, followed by Stahlbrodt in fourth place at 9.750 and Audrey Arnold (Kirkland, Wa.) in seventh at 9.625.
  • Leon's 9.8 on the bars is her second-best score of all-time, which she also reached twice in 2019. Her career-best, which is also a SCSU record, of 9.9 came at Rutgers on Mar. 6, 2020.
VAULT
  • The Owls took their second event of the afternoon, winning on the Vault, 48.400-48.100.
  • The Owls' 48.400 is the second-highest score in program history, just missing the mark of 48.450 set on Mar. 10, 2019 at Maryland against Penn and Brown.
  • Zebdi posted a team-best 9.750 for third place, followed by Brooke Burkhart (Haymarket, Va.) and Cassidy Girolamo (Newington, Conn.) tied for fourth with a 9.725, each.
  • Freshmen Stahlbrodt, Lexi Bracher (Oakton, Va.) and Sidney Wilson (Woodbridge, Ill.) all scored a 9.600, each, for the Owls.
FLOOR
  • Yale captured the Floor exercise with a score of 48.950-48.025.
  • Stahlbrodt once-again led the Owls on the Floor, posting a team-best 9.775, which matched her season-high.
  • The Owls' next three competitors posted season-bests on the Floor as Leon, Noely Macias (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Zebdi all posted a 9.650.
BEAM
  • Yale also grabbed the Balance Beam event with by a score of 48.100-46.500.
  • Leon turned in a team-leading 9.625 while Angel Lee (Chino Hills, Calif.) posted a 9.350.
Southern returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 12 when it hosts Rhode Island College for its lone home meet of the 2022 season with Senior Day festivities set for prior to the start of competition.
