3/1/2022 10:48:00 AM

Former Southern Connecticut State University Men's Soccer All-American Aldolphus "Doc" Lawson was inducted into the Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame, as announced by the LISPHOF on Friday, Feb. 27, 2022.

Lawson was a stand-out for the Owls from 1976 through 1978 and holds the distinction of being the first SCSU men's soccer player earn All-American honors, doing so twice in 1977 and 1978.

Following his career at Southern, Lawson signed with the Cincinnati Kids of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and played in the first game in MISL history. He later played for the Philadelphia Fever and New York Arrows and also played for the San Jose Earthquakes, San Diego Shockers, New York Cosmos and the Dallas Sidekicks, who retired his number, of the North American Soccer League (NASL).

Lawson also competed with the United States National Team in 1979 and was selected to the 1980 team that qualified for the Olympics for the first time since 1972. Ultimately, the US boycotted those games after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He later played for the U.S. National Futsal Team at the first FIFA Futsal World Championship in 1989.

Since retiring in 1991, Lawson has been involved in various positions in the Texas soccer community and has also traveled to his native Liberia to teach the game to local children.
