The Return to the Diamond
The Southern Connecticut softball team kicks off the 2022 season with an eight-game stint in the Sunshine State for The Spring Games tour. The Owls begin the trip with games against Lock Haven and Dominican on March 14. On March 15, they will face Felician University and the University of Minnesota Crookston. On March 17, Southern will square off with Saint Thomas Aquinas and Indiana University (Pa.) and then round out the trip with games against Caldwell University and Purdue University Northwest on March 18.

A Look at Last Year
The blue and white finished 14-15 overall and 11-13 in the Northeast 10 Conference during the 2021 season. Their solid conference record qualified them for the NE10 postseason tournament, which was the Owls first appearance since 2015. In addition to their first playoff appearance since 2015, it was also their first home game since then as well.

Back in the Saddle
The Owls are returning 13 players from last season. Two notable returns are graduate students Jazmyn Martinez and Jayden Delaporta, both exercising their fifth-year option due to COVID. Martinez is one of Southern's ace pitchers, while Delaporta has been a mainstay at first base. In addition to those two returners, seniors Ally Petrella, Liz DeRosa, and Jacqueline Dumont, juniors Jessica Perucki and Morgan Tuscano, and sophomores Rachel Miller, Natalie Scotto, Emma Gorham, Emily Lange, Angela Barresi, and Katrina Roy all return to the fold this season.

New Kids on the Block
The blue and white also added eight players to the roster prior to the upcoming season. Joining the squad are Madison Shura (senior transfer from New York Tech), Paige Delier (junior transfer from Post), and first year players Dominique DeLutri, Julianna Corbett, Madeline Reyes, Ashley Saab, Madelyn Sauve, and Gabriella Festa.

In the Rankings
Southern was chosen to finish ninth in the 2022 Northeast 10 Conference Softball Coaches' Preseason Poll, as announced by the NE10 on Thursday, Jan. 27.
