Southern Connecticut State University baseball will host Adelphi for a four-game Northeast 10 Conference Southwest Division series on Apr. 9-10 at The Ballpark at SCSU. The Owls enter the weekend with a record of 17-6 overall and 4-3 in the NE10 while Adelphi is currently 16-5-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The matchup features two of the top four teams in the region as Adelphi is ranked 3^rd in the NCBWA East Region Poll, and receiving votes in the national Top 25, while the Owls are ranked 4^th.

With a thrilling, come-from-behind 7-6 win at Saint Rose on Wednesday, Apr. 6, Owls head coach Tim Shea recorded the 499^th win of his career, leaving him one shy of the 500-win mark.
 
Scouting The Panthers

• Adelphi features the top three hitters in the conference, led by Kyle Olson who is hitting .455 (40-88) while leading the NE10 in hits (40), doubles (12) and ranks second with a .543 on-base percentage. Olson has also driven in 21 runs and scored 27 more.
• Matt Alifano leads the conference with 33 runs scored as well as a .565 on-base percentage and 23 walks. Alifano is hitting .430 (34-79) with 12 doubles, three home runs and 24 RBI.
• Michael Draskin is hitting .421 (32-76) with a conference-best six home runs, 30 RBI and 19 runs scored.
• On the mound, Nicolas Luc leads the team in innings pitched 30 and strikeouts (34) while posted a 3-1 record and a 3.30 ERA. Andrew Williams is 3-2 with a 2.79 ERA with 25 K's in 29 innings pitched.
• John Rizzo is 2-1 in three starts, with three relief appearances, with a 4.85 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched.

Scouting The Owls

• Against Saint Rose, Andrew Eng homered twice and drove in five runs in a 7-6 win.
• The last Owls player to homer twice in a game was Tyler Criscuolo against Florida National on Feb. 16, 2019.
• Andrew Eng has been on a tear as of late as he is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak in which he is hitting .378 (14-37) with five home runs, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored.
• For the year, Eng is second in the conference and one of six players with six or more home runs to date. Eng is hitting .314 (27-86) with 29 RBI and 31 runs scored while drawing 17 walks for a .435 on-base percentage to go along with a .640 slugging percentage.
• Billy Sullivan is one of 13 players in the conference with 30-or-more hits and leads the Owls with a .375 (33-88) average while leading the team with 31 runs scored. Sullivan has also drawn 16 walks for a .486 on-base percentage.
• Mike DeMartino is hitting .306 (26-85) with seven doubles, four triples and three home runs while driving in 25 runs and scoring 19 more.
• Saturday's game will be the 181^st of DeMartino's career, tying him with T.K. Kiernan for the seventh most in program history.
• DeMartino is currently ranked fourth all-time in career at-bats (683), third in career doubles (51), fifth in career triples (10), and sixth in career RBI (139), leaving him one shy of becoming the sixth player in program history to drive in 140 runs.
• DeMartino also has 106 runs scored, 188 hits and 12 home runs.
• Tony Zambito is currently at 71 career stolen bases trailing Mike Diaz (73) for third place, Marc Potocsky (76) in second place and the career record-holder Nick Lamberti (80).
• Zambito leads the Owls with 19 stolen bases in 23 attempts while hitting .295 (18-61) with 20 runs scored.
• On the mound, Nick Guarino is 6-0 with a 3.64 ERA with 34 strikeouts in a team-high 47 innings pitched.
• Steve Phillips is 5-1 with a 3.89 ERA with 34 K's in 37 innings pitched.
• Pete Phillips has been stellar this season for the Owls, allowing 10 hits in 15 innings in eight appearances without allowing an earned run.
• Spencer Fox hasn't given up an earned run in his last nine innings in relief while striking out 10 in that frame.
• Chad Fedeli is also swinging the hot bat lately as he's hit .375 (12-32) with seven runs scored in his last nine games.
• Tommy Hughes' save against Saint Rose in the Owls' game on Wednesday was the eighth of his career, while his fourth of the season gives him the most in a season since Quantique White had four in 2019. 
• For the year, Hughes is 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings pitched while opposing hitters are batting just .149 against him.
