SCSU Women's Soccer Falls To Bridgeport, 2-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer took a 2-0 loss against Bridgeport in the Owls' 2022 season- and home-opener at Jess Dow Field. The loss puts the Owls at 0-1 on the year while Bridgeport begins the year at 1-0.

Graduate goalkeeper Abigail Allen (Orange, Conn.) was tested early-and-often by the Purple Knights' attack, stopping 8-of-9 shots-on-goal in the first half and 5-of-6 down the stretch to finish with 13 saves for the game. Her counterpart, Bridgeport's Clara Karlsson stopped all six of the Owls' shots-on-goal to hold on the clean sheet.

Bridgeport held the edge in total shots, 20-14, with 12 of the Owls' attempts coming in the second half as they held possession in the attack zone for most of the second half. Six different Owls recorded shots-on-goal in the game.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Aug. 28 when they face College of Staten Island at Jess Dow Field at 5 p.m. Prior to the start of that game, Franklin Pierce will face Mercy at 11 a.m. followed by Southern New Hampshire against Bridgeport at 2 p.m. Franklin Pierce defeated Staten Island, 3-0, in the first game of the SCSU Women's Soccer Classic before the second game, between SNHU and Mercy, was canceled due to inclement weather.
