Kaitlyn D'Amico Scores Game-Winner To Down Saint Michael's In NE10 Opener

COLCHESTER, VT. - Southern Connecticut women's soccer defeated Saint Michael's, 1-0, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Colchester, Vt. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-2 overall and open the year at 1-0 in conference play. Saint Michael's drops to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in NE10 action.

Kaitlyn D'Amico scored the Owls' only goal in the 79th minute of play to give the Owls the lead, and the win. After Alexie Rosado's shot was knocked down by the Purple Knights' defense, the ball caromed back to the midfield where Britt Verstegen picked it up. She centered the ball to Riley Ayer who took a dribble around a defender and then sent an incredible pass through the Saint Michael's defense. The pass found D'Amico's foot, who carried a defender wide and then fired a shot at the far post for her first of the season.

D'Amico, a two-time All-Northeast 10 Conference selection entered the game with a team-best 12 career goals before converting on the 13th of her time at Southern Connecticut. Ayer's assist was her first of the season and second of her career. In goal, Abby Allen recorded her third shutout of the season after recording seven saves in the win. Allen shutout Post in the Owls' last outing to run her scoreless streak to 180-consecutive minutes. She also recorded a shutout in a 2-0 win against Staten Island earlier this season.

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 13 when it travels to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace in a Northeast 10 Conference game at 7:30 p.m. The Owls return home on Saturday, Sept. 17 to host Saint Rose at 5 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
