SCSU Women's Soccer Defeats Pace, 1-0

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer defeated Pace, 1-0, to improve to 2-0-0 in Northeast 10 Conference play in a matchup at Pace Stadium in Pleasanvtille, N.Y. The win gives the Owls three-in-a-row as they improve to 4-2-0 overall on the year. Pace drops to 3-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Kylee Slavik scored her second goal of the season while Taylor Hennig picked up her team-leading four assist and sixth point of the season. In goal, Abby Allen posted her third-straight shutout, stopping two shots-on-goal by the Setters.

After a scoreless first half, and most of the second, Slavik put the Owls in front in the 70th minute of play. Julia Alicea started the play when she took the ball from a Setters' attacker deep in the Owls zone and carried it up-field. Alicea then sent the ball down the left wing to Kelsey Burr, who was tackled just outside the box. Pace attempted to clear the ball, but Alicea won the ball just below midfield and kept in the Owls' attack zone.

From there, Burr tipped the ball to Hennig, who dribbled to the center of the field. The Owls' graduate transfer spied Slavik slipping down the opposite win and sent a perfect pass to the top of the box. Slavik picked up the ball and blasted a shot to the opposite post.

Minutes late, Pace had a Grade A scoring opponent halted by Alicea. The Setters played the ball to the front of the Owls' net and had a perfect look at Southern's net before Alicea knocked down the first shot, then denied the rebound before sending the ball out of the zone.

Allen was seemingly untested for most of the game, stopping both scoring opportunities that Pace threw at her in regulation. Allen was rock-solid on both plays to run her streak of scoreless minutes to 270.

The Owls return to action this weekend when they host nationally-ranked No. 2 College of Saint Rose on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
