SCSU Women's Soccer Blanks Post, 3-0, As Alicea, Deslauriers and Slavik Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer received goals from three different players in a 3-0 win against Post at Jess Dow Field. The win moves the Owls to 2-2 on the year while Post drops to 0-4.

Kylee Slavik (Plymouth, Mass.) led the Owls with a goal and an assist while Julia Alicea (Columbia, Conn.) and Nicky Deslauriers (West Hartford, Conn.) also scored for the Owls. Taylor Hennig (Farmington, Conn.), Alexie Rosado (Northford, Conn.) and Kelsey Burr (Wallingford, Conn.) all had assists for the Owls. In goal, Abby Allen (Orange, Conn.) picked up her second shutout of the season after three saves in goal.

Southern got on the board in the 27th minute of play when Burr possessed the ball at the top of the box before sliding a pass between two defenders to Rosado. Rosado carried one of the defenders deep in the box before sending a shot on goal that was deflected and landed on the foot of Slavik who punched in her first career goal.

In the 62nd minute of play, Hennig sent a corner kick to the top of the box to Alicea who headed it over the outstretched hand of the leaping Post goalkeeper for her first marker of the season to give Southern a 2-0 lead.
Six minutes later, Slavik took a pass in the midfield and went wide with her run into the corner of the attack zone. Walk across the goalline to the right of the Post net, Slavik found a seam between two Post defenders and place the ball in front of Deslauriers who was streaking across the box. Deslauriers took the pass from in front of the goal and sent it to the left of a diving Eagles' keeper for her first career.
Hennig's assist was her team-leading third of the season, while she also leads Southern with five points in four games. Hennig and Burr have each picked up a point in the Owls' last three games. Rosado also picked up her second point in as many games.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10 when it opens Northeast 10 Conference play at Saint Michael's.
